Eyewear if it rains?

Are there special goggles or glasses in case we have to ride in the rain for extended periods?

I have a cheap pair of clear, wrap around safety glasses that works well.

Just wear your regular glasses assuming they are not too darkly tinted. The key is to get yourself a cycling cap. Just the right size to fit under a helmet. The brim is just right to keep most the rain off your glasses but still let you see up the road. Bonus points if it is a Campagnolo cap. Double bonus points if it is old and sweaty. Triple bonus points if you have Campy on your bike. No bonus points if you do not know what Campagnolo is.

100% agree.  Have had one for years and finally used it for several days of rain in June.  Was GREAT!  From now on, it will be one of those “don’t leave home without it” items if it even looks like rain.  But, no, it wasn’t Campy, I ride Shimano, but it was sort of grimy by the end of the week.

I have Smith Parallel Max sunglasses with three sets of lenses.  I can wear the clear set for getting up early and getting down the road while it’s still dark, the gray set when it’s sunny, and the rose set when it’s rainy.  These glasses are great.  http://www.smithoptics.com/products/#/Sunglasses/Polarized+Sunglasses/Parallel+Max/view/

I agree also.  But has anyone found a decent cycling cap that doesn’t cost $30?  And the ones I have seen are all huge.  Used to be they fit snug and close the the head.  Maybe my head has shrunk, but I cannot find a good fitting cap any where.

Thanks so much! I looked at cycling caps today but had not yet read this thread. I was kind of confused about them… I thought that people wore them AFTER riding to hide their helmet hair! I never thought about wearing it under your helmet. Has anyone ever tried the Taiga Helmet cover? It has a visor and also a collar cover but I have to admit it’s kind of dorky lookin….

Mich we are all getting older and now lack of bulky hair makes those caps fit nicer.

Go to a motorcycle shop and ask for a “welder’s hat”.  You might have to stop in two or three shops but that is where I bought my last two caps.  The last one is reversible and I paid fourteen bucks.

My Oakley shades were too dark for rainy days, so a few years ago, I bought a pair of safety glasses-yellow lenses, which really help to brighten up the day.  Mine are Smith & Wesson that I got at a farm store. They’re adjustable and were only $12. I’ve used them 3-4 times and love them.  Word to the wise, the yellow tint will about blind you when the sun does come back out, so carry your regular sunglasses also.  I’ve also seen them in clear lenses.

I would not recommend a helmet cover.  They are hot.  On a hot in the rain, a cycling hat is the best for me.  The hat gets wet and helps cool while the visor helps with the glasses.

I have that cap, from the old days.
Also have a Celestial Seasonings cap, from the old days when there was a stage race in the Boulder area.
I dont wear them anymore,  they just sit in a place of honor.

Before there was glue? Just noticed in the photo that Dave does not have any glue on his tubular.
