After careful consideration with local officials in Iowa Falls, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel The Great Iowa Fall Ride, originally scheduled for October 2 – 4, 2020.
The decision comes on the heels of several key planning deadlines.
“It’s really unfortunate that we’re having to do this again but it’s just the right thing to do. 2020 is just not a great time for events,” said Dieter Drake, ride director. “We will shift our focus entirely to RAGBRAI forty-eight and remain steadfast in our dedication to make it even better in 2021.”
The event was billed as a 3-day festival of cycling with both paved and gravel options through the weekend, all hosted by the city of Iowa Falls.
We are looking forward to RAGBRAI XLVIII planning and can’t wait to be back on the road again with everyone in 2021.
Why they even thought they would be able to possibly have a Fall Ride is beyond me. We will be lucky if there is a Ragbrai in 2021.
I think it was March when I first brought up RAGBRAI 2021 being at risk. It seemed outlandish to some at the time. Sadly, I think there is no better than a 50/50 chance there is a RAGBRAI next year. God I hope it “ain’t so” but it would not surprise me one bit if we don’t ride again until 2022.
If you are looking for a ride, the Missouri Double Cross was completed along the Katy Trail over the last two consecutive weeks and there will be one more one-way week in Sep. that I am planning on completing.

This is a bummer. I just found out Paul’s Bacon Ride in Minnesota was cancelled, too. No rollover, either—I already have the refund.

At this rate I would agree 2021 is in danger. Sucks.
Could you imagine??! Jeese, RAGBRAI cancelled TWICE??! Let’s hope not!
