Our group has a long drive so we were thinking of a Friday arrival so we could enjoy Saturday. Has anyone heard of any options for tent camping on Friday night in LeMars? Can we count on setting up at the planned sites a day early? Thanks!

Last year you where able too so I would believe you could do it this year
Yep, we did it in 2016 and 2017.
Thanks for the feedback!
Patience Grasshopper….seriously, Le Mars will put the info out in due time but rest assured, you will be able to camp in Le Mars Friday. See you in July.
My son and I go to the start town Friday and we highly recommend it. There are many that do and then you get to see all the swell as the majority of people roll in on Saturday. Saturday ends up being very relaxing and fun. Great way to start the week.
I arrived to the start towns Thursday afternoon on both the 2014, and 2016 rides, and had no issues camping.
I best advice I can give to people who are coming to RAGBRAI from outside the mid-west is to arrive a couple of days early and just enjoy watching a small town turn into a rolling party with 10’s of thousands of people from all over the world. Getting a feel for Iowa towns pre-RAGBRAI “normal” look, really underlines just how amazing a transformation the ride entails.
Arriving early is also a great way to have a few days to recover from travel, adjust to the heat, and shake out your camping set up. It also sets you up for having the top choice for camping spots, and a chance to get a sense of where to find food, showers, bike repair and whatever other services you might need before the chaos begins.
Much appreciated.
