Sandaltan said: Knees, I think I saw the Cardiff Giant one evening after leaving Mutt’s Place in Barnum. So maybe you did see Albert the Bull in Barnum. RIDE RIGHT
I saw some kind of bull…and that’s no bull!!! I have to go with AnnG on this though…maybe she’s from Audubon or lives really close to that small, but fair city.
So, ST, you’ve been through Barnum yourself…had to if you mentioned the bar/cafe known as Mutt Lynch’s. Sadly, that business closed down and that whole long building in the downtown now has no businesses. There used to be a grocery store and something else there including Mutt Lynch’s. I would stop into Mutt’s every once in awhile when I was out doing my route. Anyway, there is another bar in town now, can’t remember the name of it, but it’s just adjacent to the old Mutt Lynch’s in a building all by itself. There is also a body shop at the end of the street, so there’s still two businesses in town beside the elementary school and a church. Go Barnum…nice clean little town!!!
The Cardiff giant? There’s some connection of the Cardiff Giant and Fort Dodge, but right now I can’t rmemeber what it is…maybe he was carved out of a large gypsum stone (we have a humongous supply of gypsum~~~wall board is made out of gypsum very near Dodge.) They mine it using the strip mine or open pit mining method. Very pure gypsum…a great product. Cheers.

I’ll bet that’s what I saw. There were plastic slots, the kind that are used to slide in letters of the alphabet and numbers along the side of the bull…for sales purposes maybe??? Anyway, my wife and I are headed for Council Bluffs before too long to go to a high school reunion, so maybe we’ll go through Audubon again. Cheers.
Knees, I can’t claim to live in Audubon. I’m in Algona, but I’m originally from Manning, so we’ll be riding through my home town on Day 2. Anyway, Manning is pretty close to Audubon, so I remember seeing him when our family was there for some reason. I got the info on Albert’s dimensions from the Roadside America website, and it was just more complete than the city of Audubon’s website. I’m just trusting that they are telling the truth. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11321
Fort Dodge had a virtual downpour late this afternoon…1and 1/2 inches of rain and lots of wind…again, but fortunately it lasted for only one-half hour. I was in town when it started buying some German Johnson tomato plants~~~very tasty variety, but now it will be a few days before I can plant them as the garden is now very muddy.. So, I went for a ride…and a new route…I can go further on this route, but no towns go through until I do my 27 mile loop, then I’ll be going through Manson, the town built on a massive meteor crater made eons of years ago. Their water is naturally soft from the composition of the soil or something…all due to the crater “splash.” Actually, the landscape is very flat in Manson, and no one could guess that a meteor ever hit there except for the unusual composition of the soil. So now, Manson has “Crater Days” for their town’s celebration. I’ll have to go over there sometime to take that party in. So, my RAG friends, it’s a g’night to mayew76, Mary, crazikate (a very interesting user name), giantron, Tracey Lyons, meta4man, moht73, mclousing, nhhillrider, verylastrider, mrhill and tfoster and to all of the folk just looking on tonight. Cheers.

As my little grandaughter says when she discovers something new, “Aha!!!”
Many years ago when my ex’s parents lived in Audubon, there was a big controversey about Albert’s bullishness. Some prudes thought Albert shouldn’t show off his bull parts and wanted to turn him into a steer!

You, please!!! You’re much more creative than I. I hope to hit the road again this evening and maybe something will jump out at me. It’s been very tame the last few evenings. Cheers.
