Guess the Route 2022

(RAGBRAI staff, we need a new category in the forums, RAGBRAI 2022, fyi)

It does not appear there is going to be a guess the route contest again this year. So, how about we do it here instead? Anyone have any ideas, tips, inside info, good guesses, Dieter sightings, etc, etc?
My best guess thus far is an extreme North route, kind of hugging the MN border. Maybe a start in Rock Valley and end in Lansing? Throw in a couple of Lake towns and Mason City in the mix along with a stop at the new Decorah brewery and you would have a nice northern route zig zagging around Hwy 9. What say the rest of you and your crystal balls!
Anybody guesses them all right and I’ll buy you and your team a round at the start town.

With today being the 175th birthday of Iowa, I wonder if we’ll see a page out of the 1996 RAGBRAI 24 playbook, and give us another birthday loop. That day from Lake Mills to Charles City was a memorable 150 mile day. The weather was beyond perfect. The strong head winds on the back side of the loop back to Lake Mills gave us a great tailwind into Charles City. slept great that night, and made the next day which was only about 50 miles seem like nothing.

I’m guessing Sergeant Bluff, Ida Grove, Carroll, Webster City, Marshalltown, Vinton, Manchester, Dubuque.

I have heard from a very reliable source that Emmetsburg is a over night town. So it will be a northern route.

I have no problem with Emmetsburg. I just don’t think that means a completely northern route. I still suspect the Around Iowa in Eight Days means that it is not a straight route. Both Missouri Valley and Fort Madison are overdue. We could start or stop in those cities and go north in between.

I love this game, I’ll take Hawarden, Sheldon, Estherville, Lake Mills, Mason City, Cedar Falls, Monticello and Bellevue. I like north but we also need a few more southern route predictions.

If Emmitsburg is in, then my guess is… Rock Rapids, Cherokee, Emmitsburg, Garner, Osage, Decorah, Elkader, Dubuque. There would be some long days but great hills.

Eleventh year for me, another futile guess. What better to do in January other than dream of RAGBRAI?
Missouri Valley, Red Oak, Greenfield, Indianola, Oskaloosa, Kalona, Tipton, Le Claire.

All entries noted and filled in on my spreadsheet. Beers for you and your team in the start town Saturday will indeed be awarded to the winner, should there be one. Some good routes guessed thus far. It sure seems like most think we are going north this year, which I tend to agree with. A couple weeks and we will know!

Everyone seems to be guessing northern route, haven’t the last two years been north? I hope we’re due for a southern route this year.

Based on the logo this year I would say a stop in Indianola for the balloon festival should be expected.

I guess it could be, but I really doubt Indianola is in the mix. We were just there in 2019 and I think the balloon is too obvious. That said, it’d be fine with me as I have a great place to stay there with a friend right off the square :)

I get 3 or 4 right every year so let’s see if I can improve.
Missouri Valley – Red Oak – Greenfield – Grimes – Grinnell – Cedar Rapids – Monticello – Dubuque

Obviously, the route is:
Orange City, Okobaji, Algona, Northwood, Charles City, Fayette, Dryersville (1 week before MLB Field of Dream Game), Dubuque.
Lansing was a nightmare trying to leave on Saturday. No thank you.
