The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

Happy Pi Day!

Somewhere in the world, it’s already 3.14. Let me be the first to wish everyone a Happy Pi Day.

Mrs Woo started baking two pies this evening. Apple and strawberry rhubarb pies are on the way.

What’s your favorite pie? Fruit, nut or cream? One crust or two? Whipped cream or a la mode topping?

Let the great debate begin!

See you along the I-O-Way in July.

My favorite: Sour Cherry Pie – a la mode. Also always looking for a good rhubarb (no strawberries). Happy ∏-Day!

To paraphrase the late, great Will Rogers, “I never met a pie I didn’t like.” Although to paraphrase what George Orwell said in Animal Farm, “Some pies are more equal than others.”

See you along the I-O-Way (at Beekman’s and the Amish pie ladies 😋) in July.

Speaking of awesome pie – The Farmers Walnut Street Diner in Atlantic Iowa has it.
Hope this year’s pie beats the awesome pie memories from 2011 . . . . .
I recall their meals were great too !

Per the Travel Iowa website – Iowa’s Best Pies:

Indianola’s Crouse Café makes a classic fruit pie that diners continue to exclaim has the “best crust in the world.” The cherry pie also made the Des Moines Register’s list of “100 Things to Eat Before You Die.”

You are talking about the pies at Farmer’s Kitchen which unfortunately closed at the end of 2012 and was reopened with different owners.
The pies you remember WILL be available at The First Church of Christ that Sunday under the banner “Heavenly Pies.” Charlene Johnson, the same pie baker, will be featuring her award-winning Peanut Butter Chocolate Explosion pie, Sour Cream Raisin Pie (featured in “500 Things to Eat Before It is Too Late,” and a unique watermelon pie. Of course, there will be a plethora of assorted fruit pies.
