RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

How many miles do you plan to ride during RAGBRAI week?

My wife and I are parking our vehicle at friends in Stanton, cycling the 40 miles to Glenwood. Then, at the end of the week, we have a ride to within 55 miles of our vehicle (which will make for 2 century days during RAGBRAI). We typically ride our bikes where ever we go in the overnight towns, regularly putting on an additional 40-50 miles. Add the century loop and we’ll be around 600 miles for the week. Best vacation week ever! More than ready to start another week of fun. How about you?

Well, I did 240 last year for my first RAGBRAI. Pretty good for an out of shape 55 year old! So I’m hoping to log closer to 300 this year.

Last year I did a total of 540 with both loops and miscellaneous riding, the longest I have done. This year the official route is 418 from the most recent daily maps. I’ll do the Karras Loop (450) and the gravel loop (469). I will probably make the 24 mile run to Plattsmouth and back on Saturday to dip and to see Nebraska (493). I may do all or none of the following: drop 20 miles down and back to Missouri from Mount Ayr (513), take the 26 mile jog up to the Avery-Hickory Grove cemetery to see the pyramids I only though were part of this year’s logo (539), and then make the 22 mile round trip to Riverside to see where Captain Kirk will be born a hundred or so years from now (561). It could be my longest week yet or I could bail out on some of these side trips.

Last year I was 527. I’ll be surprised if I don’t get to 500, but I may SAG a day for my team. Guess I’ll go for a ride after I get the tents set up that day.
