How many pedal rotations?

BananaMan has a counter to record the number of pedal rotations it takes to go from The Missouri to The Mississippi…..anyone want to guess?

Since I rode fixed, I can answer the question pretty definitively. Gear ratio 44:14 X 26.3 inches (diameter of a 700X23 road tire/wheel) = 82.65 gear inches. Multiply times Pi (3.1416) gives me the distance travelled with one full revolution of the pedals = 21.64 ft. 484 miles X 5280 ft/mile / 21.64 ft/rotation = 118,092 revolutions.

if bananaman did the century loop and finished the entire route then my guess would be around 190,862 revolutions.

Using the average cadence and time on the bike last year, I was able to calculate pedal strokes for the year….  The Garmin software can break that down into custom dates for any given time period….  I posted my number from last year on my Facebook at some point….

Also, I got a kick out of reading yours on Facebook every day this week….  (And speaking if Facebook, I uploaded my pics from this year, but I didn’t tag them yet….  I will get you tagged in there soon BM….)

I did a quick calculation of my revs for the week which were based on average cadence per day for the week.  I come up with 122,292 RPM for my ride this year.

BM has been posting daily totals to his page, guess he forgot about this thread, so this was his last entry:
Day 7 last day…Coralville to the Fire station in Wilton!….12,111 BananaMan pedal strokes…makes my 7 day total…..173,519 …we will never know the BananaMan pedal stroke count from river to river for 2011..it didn’t happen……
:(….sorry……”

That means Kicks was the closest guess with 175k, he must win a banana or something. I was in second place with 165k, so maybe I win a plantain.

AND OUR WINNERS ARE……….

RichB takes 1st place with a guess of 190k winning one banana
Phil1961 takes a very close second with a guess of 190,862 winning one plantain
Kicks9 takes third with a guess of 175k winning one banana chip
Somehow Bananaman should win something in there, but what do you give the man who is a giant banana? Peanut Butter? A frozen chocolate coating?

I say I win, they went over which means they lost.  Price is right rules.
