I’m coming back to RAGBRAI after nearly 30 years. I’m trying to estimate finances for my teenager and me.
I think I spent something like $30-40/day last year. I’m ok with spending that kind of money when it goes to local community groups (churches, schools, youth groups, etc.).
I’d say you can get it accomplished for $20-25 per day, per rider, that is if you eat normal, 3 meals and snack in between. Consuming free water will save you $10 per day, each. A couple years ago I talked to a college kid that did the entire week on $100. I’m sure that there are others that spend significantly more per day.
We estimated last year that we were spending $50-75 per person a day on food, beer, gatorade, misc.
$20-30/day for food for me, $40/day for beer. Priorities. Theres a sammich in every beer, but there ain’t a beer in every sammich.
I usually spend about $50 per day: $15 morning, $10 lunch $10 afternoon snacks, $15 supper. It depends on where I eat. Breakfast/mornings are on the go, lunch is is often bbq and I too, usually go for the local community suppers. I do not spend this much every day, but it is how I budget, just in case (I have always come home with money). I drink Pepsi, so if you drink beer, you will have to spend more.
Where do you find Pepsi? Gatoraid, water, beer, or coffee. There is no Pepsi on Ragbrai.
I don’t think I have ever spent more than $40 a day on food but I think I get to $30 or a little over most days. Pepsi isn’t terribly hard to find. Iowa must be a Pepsi generation state since most places that sell soda seem to have Pepsi. If you can find yourself a Coke during RAGBRAI you’ve got something to brag about!
Or am I the only one old enough to remember the Pepsi generation ads??
Pepsi is often at the community booths, iced down in big tubs!
Caseys or other convenience stores always have it. Trust me, I have a Pepsi (no Coke, Pepsi) every morning. I do not drink coffee, ever.
So be vigilant, you will find it!
I am a proud member of the Pepsi Generation!
I stop at Dollar General stores for soda and the best prices on powerade. They are never crowded and have a variety of snacks too. Some even sell alcohol. And almost every small town has one. There are also convenience stores everywhere, but their prices are higher.
