I want to go back to RAGBRAI!

I’ve missed the last two RAGBRIAs, but I am determined to get back in 2018.
Any thoughts on what part of the state next year’s ride will cover? I’m thinking it’s time for another ride through Des Moines.

I did it this year for the first time.. I already miss it.. It was such a phenomenal time.. looking over the last few years you would figure Des Moines or Cedar Rapids… It’s such a high for 8 days… if you never done RAGBRAI it’s hard to explain to people…

My guess is a route north of, but fairly close to I 80. Neither Cedar Rapids or Des Moines. Both cities had RAGBRAI as overnight towns in the last 4 years or so. Personally, I prefer small towns. The towns folk provide a better “Iowa” experience and appreciate it much more than large cities.

This was my first year and I went alone. I agree it’s hard to explain but it has it’s hooks in me. Next year may be different because I have a number a people who say they want to go with me. If any of them end up going great if not I’ll be going it alone again except for the other thousands out there on the road. :)

Not hard to explain to any of us who have been there. And as for the people who say they want to go with you, only time will tell if they actually do pony up. I have had people tell me that they want to go, but then when the time comes to register, they never do.

For some people Des Moines IS a small town. LOL

it’s been 10 years for Ames. and I still think they “owe” Perry and Marshalltown for the rain-outs the last time we went there as overnights. Unless the rains caused such a loss for them they are shying away from it. Can the towns get rain insurance?

I have done Ragbrai nine times and have enjoyed all the routes. I do enjoy the routes that include at least one larger town. For this reason I am hoping for a route across the middle of the state. Hopefully one or more cities like Ames, Des Moines, Iowa City or Cedar Rapids will be included in the route. Larger cities allow bigger entertainment to be available and I have found the downtown area of larger cities to be some of the best of all my rides. Also I like the routes across the middle of the states since they seem to be longer. I really don’t like routes that are short like the last few have been. Lets have one closer to 500 miles than 400 miles.

jwsknk, I do know the towns can get insurance to cover the headliner bands
if they get rained out. Someone in our group met the person who was handling
that when Little River Band was rained out in Marshalltown.

2017 was my first RAGBRAI and I also did it solo. One of the most amazing cycling experiences I have had! Definitely hooked now! Was trying to describe the experience to a friend today and he just kind of smiled. I don’t care what the route will be, I just want to be there.

I can see something like Perry – Ames – Marshalltown as the middle three days. Don’t count out Ankeny or even Winterset either.

I’d LOVE going back to Perry!
One of the prettiest towns I’ve seen on RAGBRAI

Anyone else experiencing the RAGBRAI doldrums? I am. Happens almost every August, especially after a great week like this year’s ride. The only saving grace is that now we have Green Bay Packer Football to look forward too!

The week after RAGBRAI was the worst for me. I was really in a rut that week. Since RAGBRAI, I’ve been biking to work almost everyday. The wife and I are going to Wisconsin for a biking vacation on Friday with some of our RAGBRAI team so that’s something I can look forward to.

Reedkennethia, Where in Wisconsin are you guys riding? There’s no shortage of great places over here.

We are staying in Oconomowoc, which is about 40 miles west of Milwaukee. There’s tons of bike trails around there.
