I have an idea if it hasn’t been thought of already by the RAGBRAI crew, any possible way to have the route go past the Children’s Hospital on our way through town so the kids can get a wave from 15,000+ bike riders? Logistics might be a nightmare but they shut down that area for every home football game so a lot of the same logistics would apply. Or at the very least have some cameras right on the edge of town with big signs telling people to wave to the kids and have a live feed on the stadium board or right into the hospital televisions? Just a thought, I’ve heard T.J. reads the forums so maybe this will put a little bug in his ear.

Last time Coralville was a stop over night we rode all through the university, so i could see this happening.
It would be a travesty to not ride past the hospital.
As A Pediatric Oncology Nurse, I LOVE this idea. I vote YES!
This would be a great way to honor an amazing group of kids and a tradition that only the people of Iowa could pull off. Go for it!!
this would be awsome!!
Great idea
Leave it to Ragbrai’ers to come up with such a terrific idea! Please allow me to expand upon the idea.
In the same spirit of the “Mile of Silence”, let’s have a “Block of Noise” as we roll past the hospital. In addition to waving, ring your bells, honk your horns, and make some noise! I’ll give my ooga horn a workout. Let’s be loud enough to warn the next pass-through town that Ragbrai is on the way! The kids will love this.
See you along the I-O-Way in July.
That is a totally awesome suggestion!
As a fan who has been in Kinnick stadium many Saturdays and experienced “the wave”, I think this is a great idea. It is unbelievable the feeling one gets waving to those children and their families. This would give 15,000 riders the opportunity to experience something so amazing.
I am in total agreement with all the previous post!
I love that idea to go by the hospital!!!!
It needs to be on the way into Iowa City though, If it’s on the way out it will be to early and over the kids to see it. Whereas on the ride into town will be long and drawn out.
This is a great idea. Please TJ make it happen !
Rock On!
This would be a great idea unfortunately I can’t do this day due to a wedding on Saturday
Love it and the kids will love watching thousands of bikes falling down while waving.
