Is it too early to prognosticate the 2018 route?

I don’t think it’s too early. Evidently, the city of Davenport doesn’t either:

I think I meant to say that Hawarden is on a river out west. Oh well. Anyway, I do know that Missouri Valley has applied to host next year and will move their county fair to accommodate.

This morning before heading into the office the future Mrs. said that she wished RAGBRAI was today so that got me thinking of 2018. So my 2018 version 1.0 route prediction is as follows.

Onanwa
Denison
Jefferson
Ames
Marshalltown
Vinton
Anamosa
Dubuque

Not sure if this is a clue, but it’s interesting just the same. Logo hint is purple and gold. Another Cedar Falls stop?

Loras College in Dubuque colors are purple, and gold too.

I did see an article about Tama/Toledo applying. I would have to think we are going to have a middle route that’s mostly north of I-80.

I’m with IGOR on the first 4 but then go with Tama, Cedar Rapids, Maquoketa, and Clinton. Nice mix of larger and smaller host communities.

My “Way Too Early” Prediction:
Missouri Valley
Atlantic
Adel
Ames
Tama/Toledo
Cedar Rapids
Maquoketa
Clinton

Let’s see if this changes at all.

Since it appears that the 2018 forum is now open I would say that it is officially NOT to early to prognosticate! Good luck everyone, I believe the logo is released this coming weekend so you can being scouring it for all the “clues” embedded therein….

I’ve dusted off the ever-unreliable crystal ball again and obtained a partial route, based on the eagle logo.

We are riding through Philadelphia!

No that’s not right. Let me check again.

We are due for a central route, as others have suggested. 2015 was a northern-to-central route. 2017 was strictly a northern route and 2016 was strictly a southern route. 2018 will be a central-to-southern route.

The west-to-east axis of the eagle’s wings represent the central I-80 corridor and the eagle’s talons represent the southernmost point of the ride.

The crystal indicates that the western end will be at Missouri Valley and the eastern end will be at Clinton. As a ferroequonologist in my younger days, I’d love to start in a railroad town like MV. As an oenologist in my older years, I’d love to visit the Wide River Winery in Clinton.

The eagle is an American symbol of great import. What native Iowan better symbolizes the spirit of America better than that iconic Hollywood
legend Marion Michael Morrison, whom we all know and love as John “The Duke” Wayne? Therefore, I concur with the crystal’s selection of Winterset as an overnight town.

As for the remaining towns, the crystal has gone dark.

See you along the I-O-Way in 2018.

A clue? All the motel rooms in SIoux Center are booked for July 21…..

Sioux Center? Isn’t that the same place we started from last year, or close enough so as to make no difference?? And yet, as you say, the two I could easily check on line are booked up….

Yeah, that’s way too close to OC.

Yeah, the Princess may be teasing us. She probably knows it is just a big wedding or something that weekend!
