For those of you who love to cycle, knit, cocktail — and repeat!
This is my first time riding RAGBRAI and I’m super excited. I did bike packing when I was a kid, but that was 100 years ago.
Anyone want to join me in knitting at the end of our long days?

I’m not much of a knitter (never once in my life actually) but I must say, if you are doing RAGBRAI at 100 years old, congrats! I met a guy that I think was either 93 or 95 two years ago riding but never anyone 100 or over. See you in July.
“cycle, knit, cocktail — and repeat!”
I like this sequence, only minus the knitting. But RAGBRAI can be done in a myriad of different ways. Make it your own…go for it!
Awwwwwww, that’s just beautiful!
That could be fun. I’m usually knitting in winter and cycling in summer.
@UncleKraig, @Jbox, @direwolf, come and join us. We need great conversation and someone to run cocktails for us so we don’t put our needles down.
@AprilSorenson let’s do it!
@Lsdaloia It’ll be fun!
Yes, please! Whatever we craft will have special meaning. I love this idea.
Let’s do it!
Anyone leaning towards a certain charter company yet?
I usually ride with the Out-Of-Staters.
I hate to knit-pick but I think this is a terrible idea but to each his/her own. Visit the overnight towns/square. Meet and talk to the locals – Iowans are super friendly. Have a church dinner. Enjoy the entertainment and support the vendors. Knit not, weave the yarn at home. :)
Wow! Really? Guess we shouldn’t count on you joining us
Actually, I don’t believe in National Knit in Public Day (in June) because I knit everywhere I go. I can get a few rows in waiting for meals at restaurants, and a whole lot more in during happy hours. I also knit on public transport — especially planes — a lot!
And you know what? Wherever I am, someone is sure to strike up a conversation with me about my craft.
I bet there are a whole lot of knitters up in Iowa in those small towns who will be happy to knit with me as I sample their craft beer and other treats.
As we keep saying, to each their own!
Good for you, Lsdaloia!! That was a very gracious response to someone telling you that your idea was terrible. You are going to have a great RAGBRAI and undoubtedly will get to know more people and have more meaningful conversations because of your knitting not in spite of it.
This is what makes RAGBRAI great! I’m not a knitter, nor do I ever plan to be a knitter. I assumed that this would generate zero interest, but I was wrong. We all have side interests other than cycling, and it’s nice to see this subgroup come together. I wish you all a great RAGBRAI. If I see a group knitting at the end of the day, I might join you in a cold one. But I won’t knit because it’s just not my thing. Now if there are any die-hard golfers out there….or maybe I should just start another thread :)
Hi Jboz, I used to be a golfer before I had 4 shoulder operations. Now I’m not so sure I could swing a club for a whole 18 holes. But I could meet up at the 19th with my needles…..
Thanks for your encouragement and see you at RAGBRAI!
