Someone from IA just told me that 2018 is the last year for RAGBRAI!! Is there any truth to this??? 😱
It all depends on Kim Jong-un.
That’s absolutely absurd. I’ve not heard that. Where did they get their information?
Thank you Joseph! Best laugh of the day!!! I’ll buy you a beer at the Iowa Beer stand. I ride a red bike, can’t miss me.
I live in NC. My hubby from IA. A gal in a hair salon out here from IA said that her sister who still lives in IA told her this would be the last year. I didn’t believe it but needed to confirm. This will be 11 for me and 6 for my husband. 3 of our 4 children have done it. Our 4th is planning on 2019 and I have plans for our grands to ride some day. I would be very sad to see it end!
haven’t heard that, there were times in the past when I thought it was about over. A few years when things were getting out of hand. early year in Elkader, some years around Greene’s time. But things seemed to settle back down a bit.
Yeah, don’t think it’s going anywhere.
This thread will be fun to watch!
Actually, the rumor I heard from a guy who used to live next door to a kid who used to deliver the Register, was that RAGBRAI officially ended in 1979 but has taken on a life of its own due to the karma created by John Karras and Donald Kaul.
There has been no announcement from the Des Moines Register/RAGBRAI that this will be the last year. I will believe it when I see an official announcement.
I told the gal that I didn’t believe it but she said her sister seemed quite sure. I don’t care if it’s the Des Moines Register or karma – as long as it keeps going!
I wonder if the person read the article in the register back in January about Donald Kaul slowly dying and somehow misconstrued it as it being the last year of RAGBRAI?
Then passed on her own misguided info as truth?
I guess we better get our resumes together…
You got that number of that truck driving school that is on TV? We might need that
TJ, that’s funny! I’m gonna consult the trade schools that advertise on matchbook covers (do they still make matchbooks?) and on the back pages of comic books. I wonder if that art school in the old “Archie” comic books is still in business.
But seriously, please put the official kibosh on this ugly rumor.
See you along the I-O-Way in July.
My brother’s wife’s stepdad’s nephew heard some guys in a coffee shop next to a barber shop talking about LAST YEAR FOR RAGBRAI they had an awesome time in Waukon . . . . . . My cousin’s LAST YEAR FOR RIDING RAGBRAI was two years ago. He will be riding with us again this year.
This will not work for me; now what will I do during the last week of July? 😉
I think we could use you to organize for our annual “Ride Around the Klaaren Estate” (RAKE). It’s a 2.75 mile off road ride that we do whenever the asparagus is ready for picking. Your main responsibility would be to separate two cousins who don’t get along and think they saw the asparagus at the same time.
We are trying to organize a similar Ride to Accumulate Morels (RAM), but we can’t seem to quite get it done. We need your organizational expertise.
Let me know.
