New York City to Onawa, IA … anyone going? NYC!

Email me at SaiAnjuma1@aol.com

How could we get there? I could rent an SUV and we could get 2-3 bikes in the back? Then rent again from Davenport, IA back to the NYC area?

Do you fly into Sioux City? I’ve seen prices at like $800 from NYC… ugh.

Checked Delta, you can fly into Omaha on Friday before for 205 non stop and back to NYC on Sunday out of Davenport/Quad City for 142 with a stop in MSP. 347 total not bad. Sioux City limited service very high airfare.

My wife and I are thinking of driving from Connecticut to the end city & using a shuttle service to the start town. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to try to coordinate travel. My e-mail is jrspillane@yahoo.com

I live in Chittenango, NY. I was going to drive to Davenport with my bike and gear. Plan on arriving 5 days before the start. Then I was going to pedal to the start with my tent and gear like I’m on a touring ride: US 6 out of Davenport, US 30 West to IA 141 to IA 37 to Onawa. Google Maps says that is about 315 miles. Google Street View doesn’t show a decent shoulder or berm but traffic is light most of the way. I tent camp and cook my own meals. This isn’t ideal but could not figure out how to drive to Onawa with my gear, ride the RAGBRAI to Davenport, then get back to my car. I’m on this forum ’cause this is my first RAGBRAI and I don’t know how other people do it. Also, I will be alone for this. I am 75yo. I have toured alone in the past.

I live in Poughkeepsie, NY but I can head down to New York City. I got a Bacchetta Giro 20 recumbent.. Got no car though. I’m thinking shipping my recumbent and take the airplane. I don’t know about Amtrak nor the bus..

Kenneth-I live in Saratoga County and also am hoping to do the ride. One option would be to drive to Davenport and take a bus to Sioux City on Thursday. It leaves at 7 pm and arrives Friday morning (7:50 am). I am guessing that a week of parking in Davenport cannot be too heavy an outlay.

Kenneth and others driving to Davenport.

You can register with one of the Charter services that offer shuttle service from the end town to the start town. You can request just the shuttle service, which runs around $150 – $200. For example, Pork Belly Ventures will take you, your bike, and two bags. Head this direction for details. https://pkbelly.com/content/detail/east_west_shuttle

Joe, Kenneth, you can sign up with QCBC in Davenport and ride to the start. They have free parking for the week.
