I live very close to the great lakes so even on hot days we have a nice breeze and not too many 90 days. but holy he$$ batman, it looks like it is super super hot in iowa right now. a little worried about this. have done several ragbrai’s and I don’t remember one in the constant 90’s almost 100 for every day.

they say mid 90’s all next week. That may be a good sign, temps usually seem to cycle a bit and we seldom have 2 weeks in a row like that.
Oh yes, and “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity”
Prepare for heat, don’t pack any clothes for cool weather. That’s the surest way to ensure cooler weather!!!!
It’s a long standing tradition on RAGBRAI that if the nighttime temps are above 80, we all drag our sleeping bags out to the middle of the campground and sleep outside in our underwear.
(Just kidding…it’ll be hot and we’ll still have a good time. Drink water, rest in the shade, and it will be all good.)
You bring underwear?
Only to sleep in!
It’s all relative. 90’s would be a dream for Kansans.
This next week will be good for getting aclimated to riding in hot temps and high humidity. Take it easy and HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
there is no way to know what the temps will be like for RAGBRAI as it is way too early. I don’t know about where you live, but here the weatherman can’t get tomorrow right, so he/she doesn’t have a chance at predicting what the temps are going to be a week and a half from now.
It is 100 heat index right now (temp + humidity) here in Des Moines. The 7 day forecast says hotter everyday. A couple extras that almost always go with these temps here in Iowa are wind and late afternoon storms. Should make for good times, and good memories.
Just make sure that the beer is cold!!!!!
10 day forecast is for cooling to high of 85 F by Sunday July 24- 10 days is a long way out, however the high of 85 F sounds good
We have been training in temps and humidity in the 90’s here in Louisiana so we should be able to handle it. It will take quite a few cold ones to end the day…that sounds okay!
103* in Des Moines today.
Any weather, any time any county, any day IOWA. Take your time, enjoy! A humid 94 degrees today with no wind and drizzle with a 15 MPH wind from the NORT ( from the dahm Minnisotans) the next day. It is exactly like where you live, the weather changes and adjust your ride … easy squeezy and not a race. Ride on and I will see you on the trail………
You could maybe pray for rain?
Seriously, though this is Iowa, and it is July. It will be hot.
Just remind yourself that the guy ahead of you (or the guy behind you) is just as hot as you are. Or keep telling yourself that in less than six months you’ll be wishing it were this warm again.
And as a side benefit, as the weather gets hotter, some of the riding apparel gets skimpier. Enjoy!!!
