RAGBRAI LI Registration is Now Open!

OMG How hot is it gonna be?

I live very close to the great lakes so even on hot days we have a nice breeze and not too many 90 days.  but holy he$$ batman, it looks like it is super super hot in iowa right now.  a little worried about this.  have done several ragbrai’s and I don’t remember one in the constant 90’s almost 100 for every day.

…………. or the woman behind you is HOT!

According to the world of Michrider…. on warmer days the beer should be colder accordinly and on cooler days the beer can be a little warmer but not really nessasary warmer to enjoy.

It’s summer…it’s supposed to be hot.  We had three days over 100 in Biking Across Kansas and it was bearable…just find a pace that regulates your heart beat and stick with it.  You’ll create your own breeze.  In Eastern Oklahoma / Western Arkansas it’s been in triple digits for something like 14 days so the 90’s will actually be a welcome break.

Here’s the deal…most people will likely be on the road shortly after daylight because the campgrounds get so noisy that it’s impossible to sleep.  Assuming that you are one of them, that will be around 6:30am.  You’ll likely be closing in on the overnight town shortly after lunch before it gets completely hot.  What’s harder on us will be the nighttime temps moreso than the daytime highs.

Tonight’s weather report here in Iowa gave a long range forecast of temps in the +90’s for the first few days of RAG.  We’ll see.  I just ordered a 10″ tent fan to cool my old bones down a bit while  I’m trying to sleep.  Maybe that will help me get a few winks of shut-eye.  Cheers,  I think.

Watch it guys, the weather can change in just minutes, I have done the ride and it rained for three days and then hit the mid 90’s. Like they say in Iowa “don’t like the weather wait 30 mins”
Oh Hot Women must be in the front of the pacelines, OK second or third postion, good tunes and yes cold beer. (the beer is not for the paceline)

Did some repacking of the panniers this morning………. took any cool weather items out of them. This should decrease the temps a couple degrees anyway. With the temps that are predicted if it rains it will be like riding in a warm shower.

Well my pal – I have just checked and tomorrow for our last training ride before we fly on Wednesday it is going to be hotter than today. It should hit a peak at around 1pm of 57F. Of course being an English summer the BBC say it will be “heavy rain” pretty much all day. Roll on Iowa.

Interestingly, in my travels about the country (all states except Hawaii), I have heard that line everywhere except the southwestern states. When biking cross-country with friends from the UK, they even picked up on how often the line is used – with each person we heard if from claiming that it was a saying that originated in their state. It’s made me wonder, which state was the first to use the line, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 30 minutes?”

Best,~ Kevin

In Hawaii we only need to wait 10 minutes.

Aloha and see you all on Saturday!

But I still want to get to Hawaii someday :)

Long range forecast for Glenwood is still calling for a high near 100 on Friday. Whew! I’m thirsty already.
