RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

OMG How hot is it gonna be?

I live very close to the great lakes so even on hot days we have a nice breeze and not too many 90 days.  but holy he$$ batman, it looks like it is super super hot in iowa right now.  a little worried about this.  have done several ragbrai’s and I don’t remember one in the constant 90’s almost 100 for every day.

But I still want to get to Hawaii someday :)

Long range forecast for Glenwood is still calling for a high near 100 on Friday. Whew! I’m thirsty already.

Yeah but the forecast for Sunday, 7-24, calls for a high of 88!

That’s more like it! Now, if we can just trust long-range forecasts . . .

Since I’ve spent the last two months in temperatures between 50-70 (had 2 nights in the 30’s last week) I’m going to melt no matter what happens.

I’ll only predict we’ll have one night where it rains alot.

It actually made the dizzy hieghts of 53f here in the English Peak District with wind and rail like a scene from Moby Dick. I think the change will do me good!

93 on the RAG route today.  After lunch in Griswold today, I was heading toward Lewis.  It was hot.  There was a long hill.   As I got to the top, my legs were burning and sweat was burning my eyes.  I stopped by a corn field to get a drink of water.  I noticed a strange looking character step out of the corn.  I said, “Is this hell or what?”

He smiled and wiped sweat from his brow and said, “No, just July in Iowa.”

I said, “What’s the difference?”

“Not much,” he said as he turned back into the field.

“Hey, where are you going? I yelled.

“Georgia.”

“Georgia?”

Getting out for a ‘tune-up’ ride as soon as it gets light out.

It cooled down to 80 last night in D’port.

From what I’ve found on the the weather channel, it appears that Sunday will be the hot day with temps around 90 then cooling the next 2-3 days.  Of course, with the 10 day forecast and 3 dollars you can buy a cup of coffee!  I just hope the beer is cold and the curbs are soft!!!

Hey! Wundground update says only 90 for Friday in West Des Moines.  117 heat index this afternoon though…the cold beer training starts today.

I drove past the trestle trail yesterday and there must have been 150 bikes at the bar in Madrid.  Thought about driving back to DM, throwing my bike on the rack then parking a few blocks from the bar to ride in.

Weather.com’s 10 day extended forecast shows 84 in Atlantic for Sunday, 82 in Carroll on Monday, 75 in Boone on Tuesday, 79 in Altoona on Wednesday…although the forecasters’ batting avg. is usually along the Mendoza line, this is encouraging…

In Iowa, for instance, he noted that the impact of mid-90s temperatures have been compounded by dew points in the upper 70s and low 80s. These combine to make the heat index spike so that it feels as hot as 126 degrees, according to the Weather Service.
