I am considering the possibility of bringing my gear with me this year and was wondering if anyone has some advice. My bags usually max out at 32 lbs, but I will have an additional 3-5 lbs this year to accommodate a bigger tent.

did a trip last summer, 10 days 610 miles) my bags have the sewn seams so not totally waterproof without the rain covers. The other guy has waterproof bags with the welded seams. one of those seams split out a bit 6-7 days in. At least we didn’t see anymore rain and the tape job held up.
I use Ortlieb Panniers but I ride a Recumbent Trike. You do have the truck service unless you are planning on going self supported.

Very interested in peoples comments here as well. Bagging out from Boulder, CO this and am looking for adequate gear. Ortlieb seems to be the recommended solution.
I have thousands of happy miles on a 8 or 9 year old set of Nashbar rear touring bags. http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_563342_-1___
Not exactly the ones I have linked to but very similar. They are not “waterproof”, I don’t need “waterproof” because the first thing into the bag when I tour is a 13 gallon heavy duty plastic garbage bag that allows me to fold over the top and seal it securely. Everything in the top and side pockets that must be kept dry is in another plastic bag. Total weight of my gear including panniers and excluding a tent is 16 pounds. Note, my observation::: seams tear and zippers break because people stuff way too much stuff into their panniers.

Looks like they have updated since I bought mine. http://www.axiomgear.com/news/tag/axiom-panniers/
You could check with these guys. http://www.thetouringstore.com
I got great service from them.
These look about like what I use on the front except mine are black. Tent and pole fit one side, rain fly & ground cloth other side. stakes etc one top pocket, bug spray and other quickly needed items in other top pocket. http://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FMP
Here is a link to the image of the Trike with the Ortlieb Panniers.

If you notice in the picture I do have another rack on top where I can carry a tent between the back or sleeping bag or another dry bag. once you pay your registration fees for the ride you can get the register truck to haul your gear because its included. Sometimes its more convenient to keep up with your own gear but then you have to deal with the extra weight throughout the ride. I also carry water behind my seat.
