On the RAGBRAI page: Due to the recent deadly tornadoes, we’ve made the decision to hold the full release of the route until later to give our partners at the Des Moines Register time to focus their efforts on keeping Iowa informed. Our updated schedule is to release the full route on Sunday, March 27 in the Des Moines Register and DesMoinesRegister.com. Daily map releases will be found on RAGBRAI.com and our social channels.

This is stupid that they chance the date when it does not include any towns on the route. Made plan to drive the route and spend time in the towns on the wife’s spring break this is the time for the wife and I to have time to yourself for 3 or 4 days

Even though the DesMoines Register no longer operates Ragbrai, it is still closely associated to the ride in history, name, and continued reporting. To post stories about Ragbrai at the same time the aftermath of multiple tornadoes is still unfolding would be insensitive. Although the towns we will pass through were not directly hit, they have friends and family in areas that were.

The founders of the Ragbrai tradition were DesMoines Register reporters, who covered all of Iowa. I’m thinking they would agree with a 2 week pause out of respect.

Maybe take some of the money you will save by not driving the route and donate it at the link on the Ragbrai Blog

So the paper can only report 1 story at a time? You have a cystal ball that tells you have family and friends in the two aeras? This about tradition wife and I have done this every year that we have rode ragbrai and being truthful to the ragbrai nation

Jeff, you are absolutely correct. I think someone should speak to the Register in a stern tone of voice and maybe even wag a finger in their face. Clearly they don’t understand that this is all about you. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Rumor has it, New Hampton, Lawler and Waucoma are pass through towns after Charles City.

Thanks for your rumor Chad.

A local paper is reporting that the Day 1 final pass-through town is Battle Creek, then Highway 175 NE to overnight town Ida Grove. On Day 2 the route is Highway 175 to M-25 north to the town of Galva, IA.

On Day 6 the final pass-through town is Hawkeye, IA, then entering the overnight town of West Union. The next morning (Day 7, final day) the first pass-through town is Elgin, IA.

The “rumor” of Lawler is coming from a notice of a town meeting for preparation of Ragbrai hanging in the post office.. Or, so I have been told. But if Hawkeye is the last town then St. Lucas is on the list too, I am thinking. On the last day, I am hoping we spend a good portion of it on the Great River Road… What a ride that would be.

Lawler City Council passed a motion 3 days ago to participate in Ragbrai. It’s in their official minutes on the web.

Last day Postville meeting town and Waukon a pass through town according to city council meeting minutes

If they take Lafayette Ridge Rd from Waucon to Great River Road I think they will miss the nasty hills we rode on in 2017
