Postpone RAGBRAI XLVIII to 2021??

I could be wrong but it appears doubtful COVID-19 will be under complete control with very little chance any riders, townspeople and venders could become infected. I don’t really want it to postpone but, also, I want it to be “safe” with almost zero chance of infection. If postponed to 2021, I propose the route to be retained in fairness to all communities involved. For planning, the decision for RAGBRAI should be done by at least early to mid May.

If postponed one year, the 50th RAGBRAI could occur in 2023, the 50th anniversary of the first ride.

CanDak looks interesting to me. Only concern is they built in some long days…one is 96 miles. That’s a little beyond my current level of comfort. In 5 prior RAGBRAIs, I haven’t sagged once, so I am hesitant to jump into a ride with a 96 mile day.

CanDak postponed to 2021. It’s difficult to imagine any tours happening this year.

I would like to do the NC Mountains to Coast Tour in October, but I’m going to stop checking the rest.

Stay safe everyone.

If an organized ride offers sag support the worst that can happen is you tried to ride it and failed … this time. You don’t try something because it’s too far and you’ll always regret not trying. Go for it! But wear a mask and keep a social distance.

Best to bike solo this year. And it can be fun. My first solo trip was in 1982 when
I did the Bi-Centenniel. I was fairly new to it, 35 years old, wore Sears sneakers and had no business being out there biking … but I made it to Missoula, Montana in 5 weeks starting from Natural Bridge, Virginia. Nothing like it and I saw the real America from the seat of my bicycle and met so many great people. When you’re on your bike you’re never really alone … everyone wants to do what you’re doing!
