Figure mapmyride will report about 40% of what they are reporting for rollers. That’s been my observation comparing Garmin to Mapmyride. Therefore, if you want to play with mapmyride, expect to see about 2,000 feet of climbing to represent their 4,400 feet or projections. If the hills are sustained, then mapmyride gets a little more accurate. With the absence of any rated hills on the mapmyride profiles, go with the 40% number. Figure on a LOT of rollers of medium height.
see this thread for a comparrison of Potters to what is probably the worst hill this year, Twister Hill, right after Pilot Mound.

Yeah CR and Samske, crossing the Rockies was easier than Penn. by the time they got to building roads out west they did some grading instead of just up and over. I think the only runaway truck exit we say I think was in Penn., we crossed so little if WV I know it wasn’t there. But mirrors on some of the curves so you could see what was comin round the bend?
I rode up Potter’s hill on a 50 lb. 3-speed. Just stand on the pedals and keep rolling.
Accumulation of fatigue is another matter entirely. If RAGBRAI is going to push your limits physically I strongly recommend very low gearing – and walking any time you can’t stay above 80 rpm comfortably.
To me, Potter’s Hill was a 5 mile, 30% grade monster! But, trying to get my rear tire to spin my mind may have been a little…..biased. :)
loved that hill!!! I think they should hand out medals to those that make it,LOL!!
I liked the guy at the top of the hill who was handing out beer, for a price of course!!! I suggest beer sales at the top of each big hill!!!!
I didn’t see that. I just know that there was a guy in front of me who was struggling as bad as I was… and I was determined to make it and so was he…. and then!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the woman next to him fell, and then he fell!!, and he just missed falling into me, LOL!!… I kicked in one more pedal stroke and he fell right behind my tire!, but my pride made me continue to climb to the top (my bad!, LOL). I assumed he was okay… didn’t hear about any deaths that day, LOL!!
Beer was on left, at top, after road flattened!!! I bought a beer, sat in a chair and watched others try to get to the top. It was great entertainment on a perfect summer day!!!!
tarmac52, tell Lance that a fellow cancer survivor says hello!!!!
Those penn hills are crazy, they will build a road anywhere!
