Can anybody comment on the quality of the RAGBRAI jerseys and shorts from previous years? I’d like to get a kit but would like to know more about them.
I have purchased several jerseys and have found them to be excellent.
Agreed. Excellent quality jerseys (I’ve never gotten the shorts). I get a jersey every year.
I also agree. They are excellent quality. Also if the size you order is wrong. You can exchange them at the start town at the expo.
I have gotten both jersey’s and short’s for me and my boys. I would say the jersey’s are great and of high quality. The shorts are ok. Good quality but not on the par with Pearl or other higher end shorts, but then again the price is not as high as those either. If you like firm compression type shorts you may not be happy. All in all you get excellent quality for the money, but I do prefer higher end shorts.
You can check them yourself at the expo.
Every year it seems the size is small in regards to what the label specifies and how it wears. For instance, an XL feels like Large, that kind of thing.
Otherwise, they are okay, kind of hard to screw up synthetic fiber.
Watch the sizing and yes the jerseys are very nice. Maybe a bit heavy but they last.
Primal jersey sizes are nothing if not consistent. If you know your size with one Primal jersey, you can feel pretty comfortable ordering another one of the same size, sight unseen.
I just wish there were other options for the RAGBRAI bibshorts…
One other note: the RAGBRAI jerseys by Primal are full zip, which is a nice touch for those of us who wear bibshorts.
If you preorder a jersey it can be exchanged (unworn condition) at the RAGBRAI sales van, but do it early while they still have your size. Yes, they do run one size small, I order a 2X instead of an XL!!! They always seem to be out of my true size of Extra Slim!!!!
I like my jerseys to fit with lots and lots of room to spare, much more cool in the heat. So since I wear an XL normally, I order an XXXL. Really. At my age, I have long since quit pretending to be a skinny Italian bike pro.
Of course it’s a preference thing, but I find good fitting jerseys do a far better job of wicking moisture away, not to mention having measurably less drag which adds up over 500+ miles. YMMV.
My RAGBRAI jerseys have held up very well. My jersey from my first RAGBRAI in 2009 still looks like new and gets a lot of wear. Some day, there will be real people sizing where XL means XL but until then go up at least one size and try it on.
I’ve found the shorts so reliable in terms of durability and fit, I tend to ride in them only for the rest of the year.
