thinking about one of those little camp chairs that pack up so small
A Nikon P900 digital camera. It zooms to 2000mm, is the same size and weight as my current Nikon D3000, and does not require a separate, heavy zoom lens. It will fit nicely in my panniers. Just thinking about the beautiful Iowa countryside and other photo ops along the route makes the anticipation almost unbearable!
Now if we have a mild, relatively snowless winter in the northeast, all will be well. Fat chance, though.
Happy autumn! See you along the I-O-Way next year.
some outlandish garment or embellishment for my helmet. not at all practical, but fun!
Already bought it, a Trek 920! Seems like it will be a great bike for pretty much everything I do on a bike. The first big test of our partnership will come a week from Sunday at the Pumpkin Pie Ride in Ottawa, IL. Let me know if any of the rest of you are going, I’ll wave as you streak by me!
I haven’t done a century yet this year so it’ll be a test of man and machine. Come what may there’ll be pie at the end.
Pumpkin of course!
Why do you suppose PIE, of all things, has taken on such a value, on ragbrai? Do you seek out pie, while anywhere else? Is pie something that congeals a particular ragbrai esthetic?
Whats the deal with pie really? Seems kind of silly to me, but then, there is a lot of silly, on that ride.
When I was a kid, periodically family or friends would come to visit at our farm for an afternoon or evening – “company”. It was customary to have a dessert to share. Pie on RAGBRAI in a similar way symbolizes to me the community members saying welcome to us – their “company” for a short period of time. I found a wonderful strawberry rhubarb in Sully, enjoyed the music in the bandstand, and felt welcomed.
I will be purchasing a new Catrike Expedition to ride in my first RAGBRAI! Can’t wait, fortunately for me, I live in Phoenix and can train all winter long.
Looks like they have started to release logo clues as of yesterday. Maybe that will liven things up here.
Did anyone see any real clues after the fact, from last year’s logo?
I didn’t find any clues in last year’s logo. And I haven’t seen the clothes for this year’s logo! That gives me something to do this afternoon instead of watching football with my husband. LOL
I do have a question. My helmet is now five years old. Manufactures say to replace it after five years. Does everybody follow this rule?
We have the Helinox chairs. Weighs about a pound each folds up in a bag about 1 foot long, 6 inch diameter. We have had them about 5 years, use them every winter in Mexico. Expensive but the best beach/camp item we have ever bought!
The only clue from last year that I saw was the eagles mouth that was tilted. Pretty much the angle of the route.
In August while mountain biking in Colorado I bought a Helinox Sunset chair. It is their larger chair. It is awesome.
Can’t wait to use the Sunset chair in Iowa next July.
Shimano SD5 Sandals
Well Ken H…I live about 15 minutes from Ottawa and plan on doing the Pumpkin Pie Ride…I am concerned about the predicted weather all weekend. I won’t do the century length as this will be my first longer ride since minor knee surgery but feel free to wave to me as you will likely streak by me!
