RAGBRAI 2019 Logo…Clues?

So the new logo was released along with a video. Was curious to what the route sleuths thought about it and the logos possible clues to the route?

The windmill and the whole wind, blowing into town them could be clue. I’m wondering if the route will start in upper northwest Iowa? Coteau des Prairies is up that way and its pretty windy.

Are the 3 stars found at the bottom part of the “I” that stretches underneath RAGBRAI a clue? If so, what is the significance of the 3 stars?

Let the guessing games begin…

Mike, do you have a guess as to which town in the Coteau des Prairies region RAGBRAI will start? Since most of that region is in South Dakota and Minnesota, there isn’t that much of it in Iowa to choose from. Since the beginning and ending towns actually need to be larger than overnight towns due to the busses, expo, parking, etc, only Rock Rapids and Rock Valley would seem to fit the bill in the the extreme northwest corner of Iowa.

I went with the rooster indicating we’ll have an overnight in Audubon, IA – https://medium.com/iowa-history/iowa-rooster-crowed-for-cash-during-wwi-186a887d1b34

I really didnt have a city in mind. Hawarden? Its been a start town before but isnt far enough north to be in the coteau des prairies. Was just thinking of ways to connect the whole blowing wind theme to a possible route.

Looks like I will be eating my eggs sunny-side-up this year . . . . . . . .

but the clues? are there clues in this? Council Bluffs to Clinton via Cedar Falls? I was looking at the vanes, the eight separated ones in the top half. starting south of half and ending north of half. a big arc. CB (last time 41), Harlan, Carroll, Ft Dodge, Hampton, Cedar Falls, Monticello, Clinton (last time 40).

The windmill vane has a nice star in the center of Iowa, just around where Des Moines would be located…

Also the wind vane some what represent the logo of the army so what about a stop at camp dodge in Johnston for and over night

If there are clues in the logo, that would mean that the route is already decided?

just a little over 3 months until overnight towns released. By this point they have a pretty good idea of where they want to go. Now its checking with DOT about construction plans next year.

I don’t think there’s been any clues in the logos for a few years. The last logo I recall T.J. saying was in the logo was in 2015. The year “1973” was listed on the tractor on the logo which meant that the ride was going to start in Sioux City and end in D-Port.

There were clues last year in the logo and video. The space theme, and some of the overnight towns were towns that former astronauts were from. The RAGBRAI newsletter/email that was sent out last night said “And be sure to take a close look at the logo as there are a few hidden surprises”.

The 3 stars could mean the RAGBRAI #3 route – or start… Hawarden. I thought the XV in the barn doors might be RAGBRAI 15. That started in Onawa so probs not. 15 blades on the windmill? Again the number 15. The it’s going to be a breeze… Storm Lake and all the wind generators we see on that route. I haven’t researched famous barns in Iowa….

I don’t know if those are clues or not but it’s fun to guess and dream…almost like MegaMillions!

To me the hidden surprises were the bike gears in the windmill and the bike chain in the wind mill. The only clue that jumped it to me was that the one star made me think of Des Moines.

Maybe the purple barn is a clue? Is there any famous purple barns in Iowa? A quick Google search brings up Purple Barn Bed and Breakfast in Adel, Iowa. Hmmmmm?

“it’s going to be a breeze” if the ride, goes from the east, to the west.
