Hi all,
We’ve come to the tough decision to close the RAGBRAI Forums. As valuable as they are to the RAGBRAI community, they’re a massive vector for spam and bots to enter our website.
They aren’t closing immediately. We’ll remove the forum in tandem with a RAGBRAI.com update, and I’ll post as soon as I have a more specific timeline. But now’s the time to connect off-site with those you’d like to stay in touch and save any info that you’d like to keep (I’m looking at you T. Gap Woo and your joke thread).
It’s impossible the replace the irreplaceable but I do have a few suggestions and welcome yours as well.

Please feel free to post further suggestions for Forum alternatives in the replies, especially if you have a non-Facebook option.
Happy trails,

Aw shoot! Too bad that a small minority has to ruin a good thing for the rest of us.I will certainly miss the back-and-forth banter between my brethren and sistern Ragbrai’ers. Now I’ll have to confer with my Grandwoos and have them show me how to save my joke thread.
Thanks for the shout out, Andrea. I’m glad to see that my comedic efforts have not gone to waste.Thank you to the DMR staff who put together the entire website including the forum. Rest assured that we all appreciate your efforts.
While the forum is coming to an end, at least we can look forward to the continuation of RAGBRAI.
Until we meet again, may we have moderate temperatures, low humidity, and a good tail wind.I will see you all along the I-O-Way next year.
Ah, sorry to hear that AP but I get it. You’ll still find Uncle Kraig on a few of the pages/sites you listed so hopefully we’ll see you all there too as well as next July of course!
I wish there was a way to keep this. I think it is very informative to new riders and a way for some of us older folks to have a little fun at night. I guess I will head to facebook and learn there. See you in July
All good things have to come to an end, I guess. Sorry to see it go. Sounds like the powers that be at the Register just couldn’t be bothered with either finding a better way to keep the spammers out, or assign one or two people to monitor the board to delete and ban them, so they’re just going to pull the plug instead.
I expect they’ll do the same with the ride by the end of the decade, too.

I just got here……
Great – all Facebook links which is even worse. Don’t have a FB account and don’t plan on getting one.
This is very disappointing. I object vociferously to using facebook in any form so guess I will head to reddit going forward.
Isn’t there a tech solution that could be applied here or even have some volunteers to help moderate the forum?
Hey Lodie:
I ran a forum for a while. It was a smaller forum than this one, so take this with a large grain of salt:
It’s not even about having volunteers to moderate. While that’s helpful, the number of times I had intrusion attempts (real ones, not just some script kiddie screwing around), the number of patches to the forum software to address exploits, the TOS violations, etc, etc….. it was a LOT of work. The forum I ran had nowhere near the visibility of RAGBRAI, nor the potential rewards to a dedicated intruder.
With their limited staff and time, I get AP’s problem: they have bigger fish to fry (porkchop to cook?), and with a ready-built alternative sitting there for free (Facebook), from the business point of view, it’s a hard argument to make to keep this forum going. I’m with you, though: I’m allergic to Facebook.
AP: since you said you were welcoming suggestions: what if we (meaning a forum member(s)) hosted the forum as completely separate, but endorsed by RAGBRAI, entity?
See you in July,
-Chris
Losing the ability to facilitate Wristband Transfers is the biggest loss. Can Wristband Buy / Sell postings somehow be added the Enmotive website? Ragbrai should have an interest in making this easy to accomplish. It’s easier to decide to buy registration in January when you know it will be easy to sell in June if need be.
I won’t go into the many reasons why Facebook-only options are a terrible idea. It is not “Free”.
Goodbye old friends and new. Change is constant so go with the flow.
RIDE RIGHT for the last time.
This hurts.

The Forum is great
It keeps me up to date
But is it to late
To continue the debate

You were a poet,
and you didn’t even know it.
Oh my,
So am I.
So many memories. . . .
From the guy who refused to register yet was worried that his parked car would be broken-in-to (he never participated) to the seasoned rider who posted his alphabetical packing list, the forum has been informative and quite entertaining. Peace and tailwind to all.
How can we get together on sharing a ride to the start. I can just rent a car, but if i must then I would take some to the start for sure to share my cost of the car. That is if I can find these others in need like me.
Bryan Foss first time RAGBRAI rider. Did last leg of Ragbrai L now I am hooked. Will complete the whole thing in 2024.
