RAGBRAI "Must Do's"?

Hey Gang,

I know that RAGBRAI, like Burning Man or Bonnaroo, is an event to be experienced. I’m just curious as a RAG-ROOK what things I have to make sure I experience. Here’s what I’ve gotten so far.

1. Pork Chop Guy
2. Having at least 1 Farm Boy Breakfast Burrito
3. Using the corn fields (Have to compare to Ken-Tuck corn fields)

What, in your opinion, is a ‘can’t miss’ for the total RAGBRAI experience?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Steve

I come from California and HAVE to have a Maid-Rite sandwich while I’m in Iowa. They have a truck that follows our route.

If there is a pond with a rope or a water/beer slide, stop and do it!

When they do the pre-ride in June, they will daily post highlights of places to see and special events planned for the riders in each town. Last year I went to a lot of those places/events and enjoyed each day/town a lot more. For example, of the many things, two highlights from last year: Manning–Authentic 1660 German Hausbarn and a corn maze; Victor—Rolle Bolle demonstration. Posters on this message board talked a ton about how, off-route, there was the High Trestle Trail Bridge—many went off route to see it on Ragbrai, but I went back in October with my husband to see it, rode the trail for a few miles, visited the Fat Tire Bar.

You haven’t been on RAGBRAI until you’ve done your first Church pasta feed.

At a bare minimum, one piece of pie a day. Preferably 2 or 3 pieces each day.

Free postcards, chocolate milk, and bananas! Pulled pork sandwiches, and, even though you can get them at your local chain store, Smoothies!!!!!! Wow – what a pick-me-up near the end of a hot day. Best $4 I ever spent!

Talk to locals, especially kids. Have something to give them. Make their day.
