RAGBRAI Playlist

Many folks play music during RAGBRAI from big groups with a leader pulling a trailer with a boom-box to individuals with various speakers attached to their cycle.

I created this Spotify playlist for RAGBRAI 2017 and continue to make adjustments for 2018:

I personally don’t have a speaker or anything like that, but I ran into an extended family on the last day that had an awesome setup. About an 80 lb trailer/cooler with 6X9s, subwoofers and batteries. They were fun to pedal with…..until the beer tent popped up and had to peel off.

I created a Spotify playlist as well, with all the songs I could find
with “The Road” in the title.

These are some of the songs I play on my Cycle Sound system;

Ride Like the Wind
Eastbound and Down
Six Days on the Road
Truck Drivin’ Song
Country Road
King of the Road
Yellow Brick Road
Ease on Down the Road
The Long and Winding Road
He Ain’t Heavy: He’s My Brother
Spinning Wheel
Low Rider
Don’t Stop “til You get enough
Keep It Comin’ Love
Running on Empty Jackson Brown
Running on Empty DJ Trashy
Training Wheel Rag
Bicycle Race
I Can See Clearly Now
Funky Town
The Heat is On
Get on Your Feet
Don’t Fence Me In
Happy Trails

I can’t remember other road song right now, but I also play Big Band songs, patriotic songs and some classical.

Wait. You mean your allowed to play more than the same 2-3 ac/dc songs? Last year it seemed that was the only thing playing on anyones speakers. Does Iowa have an ac/dc only law? ?

I don’t have a huge speaker on my trike but I am currently putting together some interesting music.

Bon Jovi – Living on a Prayer, guaranteed to get everyone within earshot singing the refrain

“Woah, we’re half way there
Woah, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear
Woah, livin’ on a prayer”

This is the bluetooth speaker mounted on my Catrike:

Fugoo Tough

I have the remote mounted on my mirror mount to control volume, mute and skip tracks. It is not incredibly loud, but has great sound and is made for outside… and 40 hour battery!

I use an iPod Touch, download my RAGBRAI playlist. Tried to steam with my cellphone the first year, definately a problem with thousands of other riders doing similar, the cellular network in rural Iowa gets over loaded when RAGBRAI rides by the cellular towers…

LawnchairMan – great list! Thanks! Here are some that help me up over the hump . . . although not necessarily road or cycle songs. It’s just music that makes me smile (or laugh) even when the going gets tough. I know, “Sweet Home Alabama” is overplayed, but I’m telling ya, it hasn’t let me down yet! lol And sometimes I have to play Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” twice to get up a really big hill. Nothing like Etta James’ “At Last” for the last couple miles! So, here’s what I’d add to the above lists, for now, I’m sure I’ll add more. I’ll try not to repeat the ones already mentioned.
All Summer Long / Kid Rock
Play that Funky Music / Wild Cherry
Lean on Me / Bill Withers
Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown / Jim Croce
Sweet Home Alabama / Lynyrd Skynard
Ain’t No Mountain …/ Marvin Gaye
HandClap / Fitz
Overcomer / Mandisa
This is How We Roll / FGL
Another One Bites the Dust / Queen
Born to Be Wild / Steppenwolf
Wild Thing / The Troggs
I’ll Follow You Down / Shinedown
Small Town Big Time / Blake Shelton
Good Morning / Mandisa
Old Time Rock and Roll / Bob Seger
Let’s Get It Started / Black Eyed Peas
At Last / Etta James

“Wide River” by Elvin Bishop. Click it on a few miles out early in the AM when you see that first open ribbon of left lane. Yeah Baby!

Depending on the time of day and the weather I listen to different things. Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska always seemed perfect early in the morning when it was cooler out before the craziness of RAGBRAI really begins for the day.

These are always in rotation on my rides. I have a small speaker where I can hear it but no one else can really hear it unless they’re within 4 or 5 feet of me.

– Social Distortion
– Bruce Springsteen
– Johnny Cash
– Rise Against
– The Slackers
– No Use for a Name
– Georgia Satellites
– Jack Johnson
