RAGBRAI LI Registration is Now Open!

Realistic goals?

I’m considering RAGBRAI for the first time. Two of my favorite things about Iowa are home made pies and pork tenderloin sandwiches.

My question is how many different types of pie do you think I would be able to enjoy while on this ride?
What is a realistic goal?
thanks!

any fruit in season, and some out of season. anything that needs refridgeration harder to fine on the streets, need to get into the local cafes/resturants and hope they haven’t sold out of everything.

Ya gotta hunt for pies like Pecan (found it 2010) and Butterscotch meringue (2008).  Lots of rubarb, apple, cherry, it’s all great pie!  On a hot July day, there’s nothing like sitting on an Iowa curb, in the shade, drinking a cold beer and eating great pie!!

Realistically, I would set a goal of 4 to 5 slices per day. You have to leave a bit of room for chops, turkey legs, and of course beer.

Pie is a lofty goal, but I would caution you may be limiting yourself.  There are many food choices to be savored.  Mr Porkchop, Tender Tom’s Turkey, Chris’s Cakes, or even Farm Boy’s for a breakfast burrito (about the only place on Ragbrai to get a Diet Coke.  You can get gatorade, water, or even beer about anywhere.  Sugary carbonated beverages are hard to come by unless you go into a store).

Stop and explore every town.  You’ll be amaized at all the neat things you’ll find.

Hey! I’d forgotten about that DC Tip – can’t wait, can’t wait. Farm Boys – I feel bad for all the good folks out there that are only looking forward to the ride itself and don’t realize how dizzyingly happy they are gonna be the first time a Farm Boys Burrito touches their lips
