I will try to meet some of you guys, this year I am not able to buy a bike but next year I will be on the market for one. I need to get a bent or a Trike my back has given up on me and is actually a miracle I can ride on my current bike. I would like advise on witch one to buy. I have grown to love the sport to the point I went from 200 miles last year to over 800 so far this year. I quit last year because I did 54 miles and had to crawl for a month, the day after the ride, because my back went out. So my dream of buying a carbon road bike is on the trash can and looking for alternatives.
My new ride for this years RAGBRAI is a Genius RDX. I got it used, with very few miles. I sure like the way it rides, but still working on the slow speed riding. See you on the road.
You should check out Bentrideronline.com There is a vast reservoir of information about recumbents on that site, maintained by extremely knowledgeable folks. Check out the Message Board section, which is a very active forum.
I have completed 8 rides with the last two on a Fold Rush. I would recommend tires wider than 23mm. I would recommend puncture proof like Marathon Plus or Specialized Armadillos. Bring a spare front tire with you. Odd sized tires are hard to come by. The roads are rough in spots depending on the county. I ride 28s.
Watch out for bridge expansion joints especially on this North route. I lost a rear wheel to one in 2004. I now have a tandem 36 spoke rear by Aero Velocity. Otherwise, it will be great sailing this year. I used a tail sock once. You will see everything. Wider tires will keep you out of tar cracks. Many a bike wheel has been killed by the joints. They are just about 23mm. I would also suggest you rig for two large water bottles. Bent riders some time are short on water holders due to their designs. Ride Right.
See you there…the Kernel.

My current bike only has one water holder so I bought 2 of the following and 2 cages, they work great and clip on any tube. Search on amazon for SKS Bottle Cage Adapter.
I will be riding my Quest velomobile this year. With its roof, it keeps the sun off and it is open enough to stay ventilated. It will be too crowded to be able to cruse at my normal speed but that’s OK with me, It’ll be a blast!
As far as hills go, no problem. I have three wheels and a low gear of 11 gear inches, so I can take it as slow as I need (slower than walking speed if needed) and remain stable.
I’ll be in the large white suppository with the flames on the side.
Cool Velo Sean. You won’t be hard to spot. I just bought a new Catrike Expedition. Now, I can’t decide whether to ride the Tour Easy or the Catrike. Either way, I will be sure to say howdy.
