Riding RAGBRAI Solo; Who Does One Party With?

I’m more excited about my first RAGBRAI than I’ve ever been about any other ride.

Only thing that really concerns me is that I’m heading out there alone and I’d really like to find my tribe! People to ride with, chat with, party or relax with in the evenings. Guess what’s eating at me is the concern that I’ll feel like I’m spending the whole week by myself with 10,000 other people rather than sharing an experience with friends.

So, is there any difficulty meeting new people or is this a ridiculous concern?

All you will have to do is turn to the person near you and say “Hi my name is Greg and I”m from _________”. You are now part of the group and you will not be alone any more!! If you see a gray beard on a trike – it might be me and say Hi.

Greg,,, this is my 1st also and I am riding solo too… I have a charter and I do not know anyone there but am not the least bit concerned about anything you stated. If you dont mind riding by a bent trike(apparently some do), send me a pm and we will work out the details….. Whatever happens, happens and just starting out with a positive attitude will make everything great…

So I’m going with ridiculous concern then. Good deal. :)

I really can not wait to get out there and enjoy the festivities.

if you leave about the same time every morning, by the third day you will start to recognize people from days 1 & 2. Anytime you stop to eat or drink, just ask to share a table or a piece of shade.

It really is amazing the amount of people who I just talk to for any length of time on RAGBRAI. Usually I do not initiate the talks either. Some talk while riding but all seem to just strike up a conversation while in the towns. Some comments start from other people being idiots to what jersey you have on that day or what bike you are riding.

I am planning on partying with “Team Nympho College Girls”, I’ve got everything all set up, I just need to find their contact person and let them know the plan.

It’s an “open season” for developing friendships on RAGBRAI. Have fun in Iowa. Cheers. :-P

Strange markings on the feet, such as are shown in the avatar from the previous post, are optional. These markings are found on a comparatively small number of members within the tribe. While they appear to have ritualistic significance due to the uniformity of design and their mirror-image symmetry on individual members, their actual function and meaning is as yet unknown. One theory is that they are markings denoting a privileged subset within the tribe, although there is an opposing school of thought which posits that these are actually indicative of a lower and less-desirable class similar to the “untouchable” caste of the Hindu society.
