Drove a section of the route on Friday, looks like they are repaving a stretch out of Decorah at least. I hope they do another few miles than what is currently done as it was so ROUGH that it was miserable to drive in a truck, couldnt imagine on a bike right now.

Hope so but I’ve seen many county roads just getting milled and not being repaved.
Just got back from Cycle Zydeco out of Lafayette Louisiana. Good food, good music, good ride. The roads however….not so much. A lot of the backroads are sealcoat, but instead of using crushed limestone that wears down smooth, they use pea gravel. It’s like riding on permanent gravel that doesn’t move.
It’s still a great ride, our 3rd, and definitely not our last.
Iowa backroads, on the other hand, have expansion gaps that can jar every bone in your body.
On second thought, they must not be that bad. 28 years and counting.
Last year there was a short stretch coming into Prescott that I’m pretty sure wasn’t paved at all. It was pretty appalling.
