RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

Route Announcement

First time RAGBRAI rider here, so maybe a dumb questions: I am not able to be at the route announcement party, so what is the best way to hear about the route in close to real time as possible.

Thanks
JS

Can’t even remember what our guess was……pretty sure we didn’t win but unsurprisingly I now have a list of places that I’ve never heard of apart of course from Davenport which as everyone knows is on the outskirts of the town of
Stockport in Greater Manchester, UK.

Thanks though to Bicycle Bill.

awesome route.  I live 30 minutes from Glenwood and axiously awaiting for the start.

Last year we had someone drive our van for us each day, and not sure but may be this year we can join a team or if anything else, we will just do the RAGBRAII trailer thing.

When do they announce the towns the route goes through between the overnight towns?

they already did..

Glenwood to Atlantic (64.2 miles) — Sunday
Atlantic to Carroll (65.4 miles) — Monday
Carroll to Broone (70.9 miles) — Tuesday
Boone to Altoona (56.1 miles) — Wednesday
Altoona to Grinnell (57.5 miles) — Thursday
Grinnell to Corralville (75.3 miles) — Friday
Corralville to Davenport (64.8 miles) — Saturday

usually the first day is started by dipping tires in Missouri… won’t happen for many this year.

Doya think Marne may be a “last town out” on Sunday???  Would be awesome!

Did I mention I can not wait?

Not likely, Papa.  Given the mileage announced (64.2) and using my trusty Google map tool, I expect we’ll be coming into Atlantic from the south.  My best guess for pass-thru towns would be Malvern, Hastings, and Emerson, with Red Oak as the midpoint/meeting town, and then north through Elliott, Griswold, and Lewis before hitting Atlantic.

But depending on the conditions that day, I imagine there might be more than a few people that make a side trip, or a ride out from Atlantic.  It’s only about eight miles one-way…..

Only 780 miles to the finish line for me.  Good thing is I have a cousin who lives in East Moline so I don’t have to worry about parking the car or where to stay.  I had the first 2 right but thought we’d go farther south from there.  Didn’t figure we’d go that close to Des Moines because we all know that town has a big bullseye on it for next year.

If I got the elevations calculated right, it will be about 20k feet.  64.8 miles and 2,338′ the last day will be tough.  Also looking for about a 30 mile loop on Tuesday.

As long as I came it there, it’s all good no matter where we go.

BB I did the math on google maps and if they go with similar to the 2001 route with Grinnell as the overnight it puts Baxter as the last town before Grinnell. So that would be awesome.

Last night TJ said the complete route, with pass thru towns, would be out in March.

you won’t see Red Oak as a midway town between Glenwood and Atlantic as you would be riding a lot further.  My guess would be somewhere at Nishna Valley and north.   Possibly Treynor as a pass through town.
