I know there’s gotta be people like me playing w/ mapquest mileage to estimate the routes. Any good guesses out there?
Or maybe I misunderstand the mileage they gave at the announcement party — they say they’re negotiating routes — if so, are the miles subject to change? Or is that just blowing smoke to build the tension until later this year. I’m guessing they already have a planned route in mind.

All of the route is marked with an orange arrow and all you have to do is follow the crowd in front of you. The markers are posted on fence posts utility poles etc. No problem knowing the route unless you start before daylight or if you are the last one in. Also a map is published in the paper and passed out at the Register Van. Iowa Hospital Association makes up a limited number of vinyl maps.
I’ve had thoughts…..none of them good. Trying to pass 15K riders across an 8-foot wide bridge, 130 feet in the air, as people stop in the middle for photos and general rubber-necking?
Three words.

No.
Effing.

My guess is it will zig zag across I80. Templeton has a very good chance of being on the route. I think we will go through Des Moines. I hope we go through Wilton. It would be great for the Candy Kitchen. The oldest soda fountain in the USA. George and Thelma are a riot to talk with. The signed picture on the walls is a history of who who in America. Check out the booths. You will be amazed by who left some graffiti. George also is the oldest soda jerk.

During his online chat Monday, TJ said, the route will not cross over the High Trestle Bridge!
Can you imagine the drunks riding across such a bridge? Could add new meaning to the term, “Bottoms Up.”
E41 west (old 30) from Boone
South on R18
East on E57
South on R26 to 210, see the bridge from that corner but cant get to it from down there.
210 into Madrid on to Slater
then through Huxley, Cambridge, Elkhart, Bondurant into ‘toona.

I wasn’t even thinking of that part of it; I just figured it would be an even bigger bottleneck than Potter Hill was last year.
