RV camping – water & electric?

Hi all! I tried to post earlier but don’t see it now… We are traveling from Maryland in an RV and are wondering what people do about water and electricity. I read that the designated spots for RV parking will not have hookups for this.

You may find one or two spots during the week with hook-up if you are lucky. The last few years we have only had electricity one night of the week. There will be water fill and dump places at every overnight town. We ration the water and usually just fill and dump in the middle of the week. Hopefully it will not be very hot but usually there are a lot of generators running till about 9:00 and some all night long. We have not checked the towns out yet but since they are mainly small, I think the chance of any hookups will be gone by now if there were any to reserve. Sleeping in an RV is still way better than a tent especially when you have to leave in a pouring down rain in the morning. We are lucky that my dad is healthy enough to still want to do Ragbrai and drive the motor home. He usually just parks it in the next town and rides back one town or two and then back to get 20 or 30 miles in. Very happy to have him do this in his upper 70’s. He seems to enjoy it also.

That is awesome about your dad!! I’m feeling better about RV-ing… Our support person is not riding and will be with the RV the entire time, so we’re concerned about her having power and water. The RV has a generator so she should be fine. And we’re hoping there will be shuttles from the RV areas to the “fun stuff” to do in each town while she waits for us to get there.

There will be shuttles but they usually do not start running until later in the afternoon. The trip each day from the start town to the end town usually takes several hours because of traffic and the route. Usually the RV parking is a mile or less from the “fun Stuff” but the walks are not bad. the “fun stuff” also usually does not start until later in the afternoon but the towns usually have several other things to see or do. You could have her check out the town and make plans. Get a map of the town, Supplied by RAGBRAI and they usually have the local churches or other groups with dinners.

Does anyone know how to find a driver for an RV?
