The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

Saddles – Vendors

Does anyone have the name of the vendor who was peddling (no pun intended) the unique leather bike saddles?  I think the lady who was marketing them was named Melody.  They were located next to Bike World in Grinnell.  I don’t remember the name and wanted to try to find them online.  The saddles retailed for $190.00.  Some of the riders who had purchased them were very impressed on how quickly they broke in and how comfortable they were.  Thanks!

It was Meridith who was the older lady selling the Selle Anatomica saddles. I have her card and was seriously looking at one of those. The web site is http://www.selleanatomica.com

I agree, they were really comfortable especially for a first time on one.

Yes, I did notice Selle An-Atomica at RAGBRAI this year.  They look a lot like Brooks saddles with a cut-out in the middle.  Perhaps the best of both worlds for leather saddle fans?

by friend bought one.  in three days of riding it looks about 10 years old.  The pink is rubbing off.

I sat on it and it sagged big time.  I could feel the nose digging into my crotch….

For some reason they recommended the black one since the dyes used to color the other ones tended to loosen the leather. Maybe that’s what’s going on with the pink one. You can tighten them up with a screw in the front. I’d love to know if that resolves the issue since I was thinking of buying one. Trying to see if it’s any better than a Brooks with the cutout.

i figured that was the case with the color….  As for tightning I saw the screw but it’s not mine so I’m not messing with it.  lol

she did like it though.  She had some crotch problems with her old saddle.  I thought maybe her tail bone protruded some since she is super skinny….  I had seen these and suggested it to her.  She didn’t complain much more the rest of the week…

I have been riding this saddle for more than two years, working on 4500 miles, love it, no problems from day one.  It is leather, so it does stretch, simple adjustment to the screw and you are good.
As for the color, my yellow saddle does show wear, but still looks good, not beat up.

I just ordered a Brooks B17 Imperial. To put on either my current road bike or my soon to be picked up Cannondale Touring bike. If I have the same experience as others with this saddle I should be very happy.

I ordered the Brooks over the Selle Anatomica due to seat width. My current seat which has suited me fairly well, and took some time to find, is 175mm wide. The Brooks comes in that width while I can’t find anything on the Selle Anatomica site that says the width, but noted while trying it at the RAGBRAI shop that it was a little narrow for my ars. But it still was very comfortable.

For $95 the Selle Anatomica guys will cut a slot in your Brooks saddle for you. I can hear the Brooks fans cringing already!
