RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

Should shopping carts be allowed to form pace lines?

Since shopping carts are designed to fit inside one another end to end, it would seem this could be a real hazard to those doing RAGBRAI in a shopping cart should they form a pace line. I also think most shopping cart riders will end up with that other guy walking up the hills.

Thoughts?

Roberto — I know Friday (4/20) was the unofficial “National Weed Day”, and if you cared to indulge that’s your business, not mine … but just as one shouldn’t be PWI (posting while intoxicated), neither should one be PWS (posting while stoned).

Yes as long as they are no more than two abreast.

Only if you stay off the aerobars.

With their short wheelbase and high sitting position I recommend that any rider/driver actually lean backward while attempting to steer or stay upright. Maybe a tail mounted sail and a barbell with weights tied to the rear axle would help. 8)

Would it matter that the lead cart was also the beer cart? Then perhaps the team-mates could justify the line by saying they were chasing down the brew!

And bicycle bill, lighten up! Pun intended. 8)

No offense intended, Roberto, and none taken. It’s just that a post about grocery carts on RAGBRAI(?) was from so far out in left field. I would normally have made a reference to a little too much ‘adult beverage’ but since yesterday was 4/20, well…..

This is the best thread I’ve seen on this forum. We just need to hear from a few former cart shop pros from Target about proper seat height and whether a rode cart or hybrid is best for RAGBRAI.

Don’t forget the recumbent carts. Obviously BB hasn’t seen the various types of “bikes” on RAGBRAI. If two dudes can weld two road bikes together, put Styrofoam rollers on front and rear axles, and make it into a “Flintstone Car,” then why not shopping carts? There’s the guy in the banana, the two guys on unicycles, the skateboard dude. I saw two people in one of those beach surreys with the fringe on top.

Now, can a full fairing be used on a shopping cart. And yes, if you haul your gear in your cart, you are most definitely a bagger.

No wobbly wheeled squeaky carts, they are too hard to steer, deadly in a pace line.

And no wads of gum on the wheels either…really a bumpy ride! 8)

I give up!  You guys are hopeless!!!

although that Flintstone-mobile that Roberto described intrigues me.  Anybody got a picture or a link to a picture?
