Can anyone share previous experiences with shower facilities at the main campground for register riders?
Is it free or should I expect to have to pay for a shower? I’m assuming there will be big lines as well.

You will have to pay, typically in the $5 neighborhood. You can usually tent a towel for an additional dollar if you don’t want to take one with you. Yes, there will be lines but not terrible. I don’t know that I’ve ever waited more than 45 minutes. If the showers are separated by gender, the guy’s lines are always longer.
Lost and Found Adventures is a Charter service and we provide showers where the Iowa DNA allows us to set them up each night. Our riders arrive after their daily Adventure and sign up for their turn in the hot water camp shower. While they wait for their run they relax and enjoy a ice cold beverage from the coolers and a snack from the snack bin.
If not with a Charter that provides showers, a shower can be found at some of the schools, on a shower truck, or some people enjoy a dip in the local pool which usually includes a cold shower. The costs run from $3.00 to 10.00 depending on how much a town will open up their school facilities etc…
Good luck and have a great ride!!!
I recommend the charter showers, such as noted. Try to avoid the high school locker room showers, as they tend to run out of hot water. There are generally portable showers in all the end towns. If you’re at the RAGBRAI camping area there will be some sort of arrangement. Also, don’t be too shy to ask area residents. I’ve had great luck. Iowa folks are incredibly hospitable. Have a great RAGBRAI!
Yes on showers and cost. There was a service last year using a portable trailer that seemed to be at each overnight town. If the campground is at a school they will sometimes open up the building for a shower. Same if their is a community pool with showers. Lots of riders use. Suggest you wear water-proof sandals plus use a little Listerine or some other antiseptic on your feet after using the available public shower.
I find weird that I can’t find specific information about showers at the towns’ websites.
Did you look at the campground maps? I think most of the towns, if not all, show where the showers are on the campground maps.
Look at the overnight town campground maps each city posts on their websites or grab one at the information booth as you enter each overnight town…most have printed maps to hand out to riders.
