I have an old cloth-based sleeping bag that is bulky and not for cold weather. I’m concerned about the space vs weight. I normally don’t camp and don’t want to spend money on a new sleeping bag. So, I’m considering bringing a light blanket and sheet. BTW…I’m using a charter and they are hauling my gear to my tent so weight is not as much a factor as if I was biking the gear. I’n other words I don’t need an ultra-light bag. For those with experience, I would like your thoughts on using a light blanket and sheet vs a bag.

I use a fleece “sleeping bag” from Wally World that works great. About $12. Light. Packs small.
Do they come in pink?
Yes ~ That’s the way to go!

K-Mart, Meijers, Wall Mart; $9 to $12 Lightweight, compact, warm, cozy.
For spring/fall rides, I use it as a sleeping bag liner. ( I haven’t seen it in pink though.)
Blanket and sheet? I’ve tried that, and always ended-up tangled in them.
(I move a lot when I’m sleeping.) I get a great night’s sleep in a lightweight
bag, and put on sweat’s if it get’s cooler.
I also use an Ultralite cot from Luxury Lite. Really improves sleeping.
What time will your coffee be ready?????
I think CR lives pretty well Mich. Experience is a good teacher.

Being a backpacker, I’m a firm believer in high quality, lightweight gear. I’m bringing a light duty down sleeping bag (Eastern Mountain Sports) Cool Max sleeping bag liner, and two down backpacking pillows from (LL Bean.) I can’t say enough about the Cool Max liner. It’s sooooo cool on hot nights, but added to a sleeping bag, it’s toasty warm. Tights and an cool max top go everywhere with me.
I’m bringing a camp cot by “Roll A Cot”. It weighs only 8 pounds and fits into my duffle w/o a problem. It’s lightweight mesh base is super cool and it has a nice pocket that hangs below to hold my head lamp, glasses, water bottle etc. I found a great battery op. fan by 02 Cool that will hang in my tent and my toiletry organizer from LL Bean will also hang nicely in the corner. Thanks PBV for having plenty of outlets to charge the batteries!!
PBV is the best! I’ll see you under the circus tent (how appropriate)!!!
Thanks ST. I try. BTW, my cot weighs in at just around 3 pounds… not that I have to carry it anywhere. But the charter guys dig light weight.
And Mich, while the Jetboil does make a decent cup of coffee, I still prefer to find my fix on the road.
C.R. which charter this year??
Brancel! My home away from home on RAGBRAI.
Bob Bancel is a great guy and they do a wonderful job for riders!!!
