Ya know ST – I edited my post as I initially said – do we have a date planned for Monday. I guess I can’t win either way!!

And what is “red carpet” in your world? xo

I like Templeton Rye.  By “red carpet” I hope it means a tour of the facility, pictures, and samples.  It’s more difficult to find the Templeton in my part of Illinois because when stores get a case it sells out in a day or two so you need good timing or connections.

“Red Carpet” is no joke HH.  Direct from the Day 2 summary:

Templeton: Cutting straight to the chase: Yes, there
will be samples. RAGBRAI riders can tour the distillery and sample the
now-famous Templeton Rye Whiskey that traces its history back to a
recipe that Prohibition-era bootleggers hid in a hollow gravestone in
the local cemetery.

“We’re planning to roll out the red carpet,” company founder and president Scott Bush said.

The town has bumped up its annual Rock and Rye Days to coincide with
RAGBRAI, and Bush is encouraging riders to buy Templeton Rye bike
jerseys.

“We’d love to get a picture of a thousand riders with their jerseys at our facility,” he said.

But don’t count on buying any bottles. Those are still in short
supply. 209 E. Third St., Templeton, (712) 669-8793,

Would ST EVER mislead anyone???

First of all, let’s be realistic.  0.5 oz of liquid is one tablespoon.  That’s not even enough to get the tastebuds wet!!!  A sample size of one full ounce — or even an ounce-and-a-half? — would be much more appropriate.

So using a one ounce sample size:

10K samples = 10K oz of spiritus distillii
Templeton Rye is aged in 53-gallon barrels and sold in 750 ml bottles.
There are 25.4 fluid oz in 750 ml (and 128 oz in a gallon).

THEREFORE:

Giving away that much of the amber nectar would mean that the company would have to drain almost a barrel and a half, and *394* 750-ml bottles (or 33 cases) of finished product would never make it to market.

How do you like them apples, Helen?

If they are handing out 5oz samples it will really be a fun day.

First of all, let’s be realistic. TR is not apples, that would be cider.

However:

Holey Schmoley. Good work beebs. I was hoping you would come through. Let’s hope most riders know as little of TR as I did before this here forum and AnnG’s basement in Algona.

I’d rather have the real stuff, the kind in the mason jar that just happens to appear and nobody knows where it can from.
HH, what about your wine thread, where did that go? several on the route this year, Snus Hill 3 miles of rail trail out of Slater, going right by WhiteOak, and through the Amanas.

mason jars…pah!

I was in MS and put some milk in my tea from a gallon jug – it curdled my tea and made me the laughing stock of Pearlington – it was cocunut________. Darn – can’t remember what they called it. Kinda like moonshine, but sweeter. I drank my tea anyway, just for giggles….yep, got the giggles all right.
I miss lots of threads from the old forum – even the What’s Grilling Tonite thread. No-one has asked for the return of the Book Thread – strange!
See you in one of them wineries, jay-dub……I’ll be sure to leave the overnight town nice and late so I don’t miss you. xoxo

HH, had some of that ‘shine they make in Tennessee. Could have bought some but it would have added a few miles to the days ride, would of had to backtrack a ways. Kind of an odd stoip at that store, buggies and Amish and a guy offering moonshine, guess it really was a general store with somthing for everyone.
don’t leave camp before 9:00 then you might have a chance of seeing me on the road.
