You’ve probably read that water from the Missouri River is being brought into Glenwood for those that want to dip their tires.
There was article published in the Glenwood paper this week:
Roads and farmland west of Interstate 29 are inundated with floodwater and closed to traffic. Bicyclists who enter the evacuated area and attempt to go to the Missouri River are not only putting themselves at physical risk, but may find themselves subject to arrest or the following fines:
* $750 for entering an evacuated area of Mills County;
* $500 for being on a federal levee;
* $40,000 for entering the Missouri River for recreational purposes without permission of the U.S. Coast Guard.
“If we catch them being in the evacuated area, they’re going to be getting a $750 citation for the first offense,” Mills County Attorney Eric Hansen said. “It’s $1,000 for repeat offenders.”

Is it possible and legal to dip in the park on the west side of the river near the
Bellevue bridge?
The name of the park in Bellevue is Haworth Park. It is only about 3mi from I-29 on IA 370.
Please be aware that all Missouri River water is currently contaminated with sewage. Haworth park is completely under water and is closed. If you are on your bike you could probably sneak down the few feet to the water and stick your tire in. If you are in a car, there is no place to park and driving is limited to bridge traffic only (last I was down there which was several days ago.) Hope that helps.
I will skip tire dipping this year. I’ve always done it just because I like the idea of starting at the river and I like to get out on Saturday and ride anyway. Sounds like the river will be near enough to Glenwood this year to just call it “close enough”. Dipping your tire in a tank in town is pointless.
My aunts home is on 370 close to the I-29 exit. She has moved out in anticipation of the flood but when I was there about three weeks ago the road was open and I was thinking about zipping across the Bellevue bridge into Haworth Park but Beccy has put the kabosh on that. So I guess we will just skip the dip this year.

my mother was evacuated from Percival and it was flooded a few weeks back. they are serious about fines and arrests. Looting is a major problem currently and is being watched for at every angle.
For that matter, dipping in the Missouri River is just as pointless. It doesn’t change the ride, it is just a symbolic start. A downtown tire dip carries the same symbolism and has a story to go with it. Iowans faced with flooding and evacuations brought the river to us. Be appreciative, not cynical.
