A related storm sank a cruise boat in Missouri and killed 8, perhaps more. If the Register wants to set up a collection bin for victims in Iowa and Missouri I’m in!
Heard there have been injuries but haven’t heard of any fatalities. Downtown Marshalltown took a big hit and a plant near Pella.
A couple of other thoughts. Local TV in Chicago reports that Iowa police are asking people to stay away from affected areas. Those of us traveling E to W across Iowa should check this website for road closure announcements before we leave. And be prepared for detours or delays on the trip. I’ve not heard of any but you never know.
In 2011 I traveled to Alabama with a group from my church to help clean up tornado damage in the Huntsville area. If we pass close enough to any area that could use our help the Register should organize an effort like that. I’d be willing to pitch in for an hour or a day!
Marshalltown had a 9pm curfew tonight. Courthouse cupola on clock tower looked like it was gone. Building on the corner looked like it lost most of 2 walls. Lots of Windows and storefronts damaged. Three a lot of cars around in Pella and tore up a couple of Vermeers plant buildings. Bondurant 4-5 homes destroyed, 20 or so damaged. Will see what tomorrow’s reports say.
Definitely happy to contribute
