Brent,

Unfortunately, I’ll be a little ahead of you in training. I will start on7/22/12 at 6:00 AM. Good luck catching up, that’s a pretty big gap to close!

It is possible to ride Ragbrai without training miles..just ride slow.
5-10 miles an hr.
Ride in a straight line..draft whenever you can.
By DAy 5, your body will adapt.

Riding without training MAY be possible, but it would be miserable. Why sign up unless you like to ride your bike?

They have the Ragbrai spirit but don’t have the Ragbrai training time..

Brent,

That’s true but I’ll still be ahead even with Dad’s Wafles. Your only advantage will come if I take a morning nap, which is very likely! good Luck!

When you talk about training, are you talking about for riding or drinking?

The riding part is easy, the drinking part requires a well developed plan over the course of a year. You need to acclimate to Ragbrai, just like high altitude training. Good luck, let me know how you training is going!

Training = riding. If you ride your bike a lot, you’re training. If you don’t, you’re probably not interested in RAGBRAI anyway. Nice how that works out.

I am going to grill an Iowa chop tonight and call dinner a training session. It is cold and raining, the Iowa biking season is drawing to a close except for the hardy bikers who ride all year.

Maybe your should have a beer with that pork chop, and get in twice as much training… You are correct about the season drawing to a close. Yesterday I was able to get 41 miles. Today I made it 14 miles before I quit (Rain).

I am 105 miles from my 2012 goal of 3K, so I guess the last bit of the riding season for me will be with mittens and a stocking cap.
