RAGBRAI L Concert Series Announced!

WELCOME TO LEON IOWA!

HI FOLKS!
I am in charge of coordinating events for one of the first main buisnesses that you will see you enter Leon! We are looking for suggestions and ideas about what YOU want! We will have a large grill in operation? What’s your favorite item? If we had activities on the front lawn what would you suggest or participate in? We can’t wait to have a fantastic time with you all!

Just a thick slab of tomato on a bun with mayo salt and pepper. So good. Different than all the fried/grilled fare. Lots of people in line waiting for those. I think they were selling them for $2 each.

Yes to live music! Can never go wrong with cheeseburgers. Vodka lemonades are great at the end of the ride. Lots of cyclists will love small cans of ice cold Coke.

Looking forward to Leon!

Ride On!

My Mother, called Mummy, immigrated after the WarII from England. Here is the recipe for a tomato sandwich. Ingredients: Two slices of white bread, real mayonnaise, sliced tomatoes, salt and pepper. Spread real mayonnaise on one slice of white bread, cover the slice of bread with sliced tomatoes, sprinkle with salt and pepper, cover sandwich with second slice of bread. Cut in half. Yummy!!!

@powellpd, I’d eat that tomato sandwich, wouldn’t even have cut it in half!

BRAG did pimento cheese sandwiches. I couldn’t get enough of them. Maybe pimento cheese and tomato? Yum!

Tomato sandwiches? Seriously? That is the best use you can think of for a large grill? If they were fried green tomatoes I might find it amusing to watch other people eating them because of the movie/book by that name but if I am going to eat a tomato it had better be in a sauce, on a pizza, or in a bowl of pasta!! But it is RAGBRAI so I hope you will indeed make all the tomato sandwiches my dear friends here can eat and make them according to Mum’s secret recipe, please.

As for the grill, there are a whole lot of things that people love grilled that don’t particularly appeal to me any more than tomatoes do but you would not go broke by selling them. If you want to sell me something off the grill it won’t be very imaginative I’m afraid: burgers, brats (or perhaps some other sausage?), or a nice steak sandwich of some kind. I remember a great grilled ribeye steak sandwich one year but I don’t recall the town or the year. Mr. Porkchop kinda has that angle covered so I don’t know if chops would be a good idea or not.

Every Sunday after church my wife and I have lunch at a great southern BBQ restaurant, the Texan, in Algonquin, Illinois. I have the sliced beef brisket dinner every Sunday. Boring, I know, but if you have a recipe to make that on your grill you’ve an excellent chance of selling a plate to me. Is that some ears of corn I see over there on the grill? Yeah, I’ll take a couple of those two. And one of those potatoes would be nice…. I guess what I am saying is that I don’t think that southern BBQ is overdone on RAGBRAI so if you have or can get some good recipes it might be a good option.

As for the lawn, I’m not much of a lawn games guy and especially not at the end of a day’s ride so I can’t help you with that.
