RAGBRAI LI Registration is Now Open!

What brand and type of bicycle will you ride on RAGBRAI?

This will be the sixth year I bring my trusty Jamis Comet to RAGBRAI. It’s an aluminum frame road bike. Jamis makes some pretty cool bikes, and they sell for far less than the “better-known” brands. Outfitted with Shimano components, Mavic Open Pro Wheels, and Continental Gran Prix 4000s tires.

What about you?

Working recently at a customer’s home, I stumbled upon a bike in shed that I have drug home. They let me have it. It’s an ’87 (I believe) Raleigh Technium Tri-Lite 12-speed. In pretty rough shape. If I can make it ride-able and reliable, I may be riding it!

If a rainy week is forecast, a 1999 Rivendell Rambouillet with fenders, triple chain rings.

If generally dry, a 1996 Simmonetti with full polished Campagnolo.

Both are lugged handmade steel frame bikes, what some call old school now, but hey, so am I.

I’m riding my single speed industrial tricycle I bought at the surplus sale my company had. Weighs 94#. 26″ front tire and 24″ rear tires. Just joking, I use that one for carrying fishing stuff out on the long jetties here on the coast. Rod holders, tackle, ice chest, etc… I’m actually riding the only road bike I own. Rabouix 2.0. Still debating what size tires to use tho. I currently have 23 mm Gatorskins. No flats but a little rough on chip concrete asphalt roads. I’m thinking of maybe getting a softer 25mm tire for RAGBRAI.

I live in the Cedar Rapids area and plan to do at least the day seven ride. I’ll either be on my easy going Felt Cafe3 (700C and Selle An Atomica), or if the route’s climb is reasonable, my immense Azor/Workcycles Kruisframe (Schwalbe Marathons and Brooks B67)

Bought a new bike this year, Cervelo RS. All carbon fiber frame and a great ride. Did a 62 mile charity ride Saturday and the bike was everything I could hope for. Can’t wait to see what its like on the seven day ride.

Giant OCR C3 with Conti Pro 4000s. Not a single flat last year, we’ll see if we can keep a streak going. I haven’t ridden since February. I need to get off my butt. 82 days!

Cannondale CAAD5 105, with my Brooks 17 Imperial and Conti 4-seasons 28’s. Going to be a massive improvement over the Kona Dewdrop I rode last time…
