What to carry on bike?

Hello All,
New to Ragbrai this year.  I’d like to know what gear you carry on your bike (besides spare tube and air) and how do your carry it?  How many water bottles?  Snacks?  Raingear?  Thanks

In good sized handle bar bag:

2 x tubes
Small patch kit
Crank Bro multi tool(lots of stuff I never use, until the one time I really need it)
Cleat Lube(because nothing is terrifying as realizing your cleats are stuck just as your bike stops)
Black electrical tape(almost as good as duct tape but looks much sharper)
Arm warmers
Cheap rain jacket(don’t care if I lose or give away)
Even cheaper flip-flops
E-Gel(becasue bonking sucks)
Granola bar(because you should eat before your hungry)
Sun Block(I’m of Irish descent)
Chamoi Butter(Usually don’t need until day 5, but then its a must)
Wallet(ID, Cash, Credit cards, emergency contacts)
Crackberry(also serves as MP3 Player & Camera)

On Frame:

Frame pump
2 x water bottles( because you should drink before your thirsty)

Jersey Pocket:

Flask(because you should imbibe before your body craves alcohol)

one granola bar!! when the bagger is hungry, he/she pulls over, opens panniers and pulls out sandwiches, yogurt, cocolate milk, tapioca pudding, grapes, macaroni salad, most anything including can food..what to carry?  ..start with rear panniers, front panniers, rear and front rack pack, handlebar pack.. fenders, lights, ..a swiss army knife has a corkscrew in case someone shows up with a bottle of vino..a glass of wine to wash down spagetti at the church benefit only make sense, that’s where Willjava flask would come in handy.

When I think of canned peaches I think of Steve McQueen in the movie “Nevada Smith”…..eating those peaces with his fingers.  I carry a can opener…P38…an old steel P38.

Mich:  Every Steve McQueen movie was a good move and Nevada Smith was a great movie and a big hit with me.  Speaking of great and big, your buddy Johnny’s name came up today in a biker discussion.  Not in a bad way….just came up.  See ya on the curb and tell ya about it if I can remember, July is a long time from now.

Last year Johnny did his second and probably his last RAGBRAI.  He got sick from the “heat and hose water” (his comment).  Gotta watch out for that hose water!  However, he did have a good time.  Yes, he is a big guy!  He likes those more difficult rides like the Key West ride!  This year I’m coming to Iowa with 2 of the girls (maybe 3)!  It’s a sick world and I’m a happy man!

P38 haven’t heard that in years. I know I have a couple laying around here. You are showing your age if you know how to operate one of them.

Hose water he says??????????????   Yeah….right Mich.  That is a new one, blame the hose water.  Johnny should have stayed with you and your friend Bud.

.When I get hungry on RAGBRAI, I pull over and have muffins, pastries, pancakes, kolaches, pork chops, pie, ice cream, brownies, cookies, hamburgers, porkburgers, turkey burgers, peanut butter sandwiches, hamballs, whoopie pies, and dozens of other yummy things.  Tell me again why I’d want to carry my own food?

FROM A PRACTICAL STANDPOINT:

I’m surprised no one has yet said something about an identification and/or a medical card.  I would no sooner ride without one than I would go without my helmet or my water bottle.

God forbid anything should happen, but if it does and you’re not able to speak for yourself, a card with your name, address, “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) contact info, and a brief rundown of medical conditions (drug allergies, current meds, pre-existing conditions) could save your life.

Hang on to them Tony, I am down to one good steel P38 and they are hard to find.

I have my road ID around my ankle when I ride.  And my cellphone has an ICE contact number listed.

I always carry an ID with me when I ride.  If it’s just around town I carry a little money pouch(best way to descibe it) that has money , keys and minature ID’s that are laminated.  I copied my medical cards, a picture ID, and my drivers license, even though that might be illegal, and reduced them to fit the pouch and then laminated them.  This pouch is also big enough to hold my real drivers license and credit card while doing RAGBRAI and it even fits in a small ziplock if it rains.  Tony, you might have one of these pouches, the QCBC used to give them out.  And I also have a little piece of paper taped to my helmet with necessary info in case of an emergency.
