Personally, I’d like to see more fresh fruit and veggies on RAGBRAI. Also some more beverage selections: homemade root beer, ginger ale, that sort of thing for us nondrinkers in the crowd.

I’ve thought this for years! Here in Atlantic, there are several VERY good bands but we paid over $8000 for the NADAs. Apparently the RAGBRAI people themselves pushed that according to the chamber of commerce people.
I usually get going in the morning with a Monster, but if that was unavailable I would settle for some Starbucks or similar. A big breakfast burrito would be sweet too, especially if it has bacon or steak or both in it! I like portable breakfast foods so I can munch as I ride the first mile or two.
Some good beers, ales and stouts would be nice. Lite, Bud, Millers, etc. get a little old after awhile. A cold Smithwicks or a Guinness would be grand.

If someone wanted to sell just the basics, your recommendation is a good start. I’d only drink a Bud if I were sitting on a curb. :-)
But Guinness, is not to be served cold! Learned that in Ireland back in 87.
Less accidents…

If you’d settle for 0 miles into the route, we are a free-trade coffee house in Marshalltown, and we’ll be happy to charge you up with a cup of joe before you leave town for Cedar Rapids Thursday morning. As one of Marshalltown’s eaterie owners (and 3 time route rider myself), I’m curious about this topic so that we can serve riders the best that we can. Following other comments made here, we have bagels, fresh fruit and oatmeal. Also homemade granola and omelette cups (egg, bacon & cheese baked like a muffin for on-the-go protein). Wednesday we’ll have some of the best pie you’ll find on the ride, and I hadn’t thought about having milk available — but now I will. Any suggestions/requests for dinner Wednesday night when you recharge in Marshalltown? I’m open to ideas that give you what you want.
I am so with you on that one!
A couple years ago they had those in the cooler behind the bar but wouldn’t sell them at that in-town bar. Stating that they were only selling the sponsors beer. I forget if it was Bud or Miller. That was truly sad.
But, since we have a trailer this year, I can buy my own!!!
I’ll be sponsored by Budweiser this year!!!!!!
I discovered this weekend that I have truly become a beer snob. I’m hooked on dark craft beers, vanilla porter in particular. My BF and I were at a bar serving Guinness as the only dark choice when I made the comment that Guinness has become the Budweiser of dark beers. The BF just laughed!!
I too think of myself as a beer snob. BUT there is something about that last week in July that just screams for Bud light. I never drink it otherwise.
Something about a cold Bud or Bud Light in July!!!!
Anyone interested is having Cafe de Klos (formerly of Cedar Rapids) as a vendor? We are opening in Vinton this fall and are considering serving lunch on Thur. 07/26.
