It should be an interesting Winter, with both rides attempting to attract riders. I believe that tradition will carry more weight than disatisfaction over editorial decisions, and RAGBRAI will continue to be successful.

RAGBRAI is not going away. While we are out riding, there are truckloads of beer, food, suntan lotion, bike accessories, ice, D batteries, etc following along. Ask Hy Vee, Casey’s, Kum & Go, Bud & Miller if they like RAGBRAI. I once asked a Pizza Ranch owner if it was the best day they ever had and she said “this is the best month we’ve ever had”. A bar owner (Dundee IA) told me he had 2 days when he put over $20k into the bank night drop, both were RAGBRAI. A vendor (corndog lady) said doing county fairs is a lot of work to hopefully break even, RAGBRAI is a lot of work to make a lot of money. The church ladies, Scout troops, Lions Clubs, the Amish, County beef and pork producers probably have similar stories. The Iowa Craft Beer tent/trailer was built because of RAGBRAI. Big Grove brewing of Solon has purchased naming rights for ‘Tailwind Ale’, the “official beer of RAGBRAI”.
Do you think they want riders and dollars to be split between 2 rides?
Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but the fact that the IA State Patrol has stated they may be stretched too thin to do 2 rides – and they have already committed to doing RAGBRAI, could be the result of calls from corporate offices to State offices.
I have a suggestion. To those who include the DMR’s editorial decisions in their bicycling choices, take out a RAGBRAI shirt, hat or jersey and blackout the first “R” with a sharpie. Or perhaps wear a black armband (to also celebrate the 50 years since the “Tinker vs Des Moines” Supreme Ct case about freedom of expression).
Lastly, the out-of-state riders (with their out-of-state tourism $$$) don’t care about the “issue”.
As Sonny Corleone said: “it’s not personal, it’s business”.
Not to quibble, but it was Michael Corleone who pointed that out to Sonny.
Thanks!, but we’re both wrong. Tom said it to Sonny
As with many things there are many right answers. First in the scene when arguing Tom says it to Sonny. Later in the scene when Micheal is made fun of by Sonny. Micheal reiterates it to Sonny when he tells him he will take out McCluskey and the Turk. Both right? Both wrong? Who knows but seems appropriate this week.

Hopefully, no one will get a dead fish delivery.
And, don’t forget the cannoli.
A great movie fer sure.
RIDE RIGHT
Sounds like people are ready to “go to the mattresses”.
Ya’ll have a ride director yet? Tick, tock.
This is interesting…..https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2019/10/22/former-ragbrai-director-juskiewicz-operated-non-profit-year-before-resignation/4057785002/
Injunction Junction, what’s my function? 🎵🎶🎵
This is potentially a big problem, if everything is as stated. I am sure RAGBRAI is scouring the computers for any sign of working toward agreements that show up being enacted in Iowa’s Ride. This would be something that takes some time.

Maybe they do, maybe they don’t they won’t tell. It is a surprise
Hmm… it would be a cold day in hell before I ride with TJ.
I have been in 30 Ragbrai’s. I do not believe the other ride will be safe for the riders. There are going to be a lot less bikers on the road and a lot more auto , truck traffic on the road. When the public hears that Ragbrai is coming , they stay off those roads. The other ride will not be taken seriously and I expect a lot off accidents. I look forward to many more safe Ragbrai’s.
