Who here will be riding BOTH Iowa Ride and RAGBRAI?

Don’t give a shit about the politics involved…just super excited to across the state two times 🙂

Might do it self-supported for Iowas Ride and then have the trailer carry my stuff for RAGBRAI (maybe a good training technique???)

Adding an extra speaker (boombox) on the back of the bike for extra THUMPIN’ and BUMPIN’!

Sounds like your cat is doing a good job.

Doing both rides should be an interesting adventure. As several have mentioned here, the Out of Staters will be providing charter services for both rides that includes “connection” services at both sides of the state. This is wonderful news. Additional logistical challenges need not apply. BTW: although it’s been a while, am still missing the Peach and “Over the Coffee.”

There are dozens of small, cross-state or multi day loop rides. Each is unique and each seems to have a loyal following. Some date back almost as long as RAGBRAI. Most other state rides are fewer than 1000 riders, some fewer than 100. They wouldn’t still be in existence if they were a bad time or disorganized. To say IR will not be like RAGBRAI is absolutely true. To infer that because it will be smaller it will be a bad time is flat out false. A ride doesn’t have to be 15,000 riders and a Mardi Gras vibe to provide riders with a great experience.

People who are able to do both rides will have a great time, and enjoy two dramatically different ride vibes. Have fun everybody…I’m doing 3 days of each in my improvised loop ride.

Some cycling club or individual needs to come up with Iowa ‘Double Cross’ 2020 jerseys…

Yes Jeff Brune, OTC and the Big Peach were often highlights of the day. The Big Peach was saved for weeks at my house, much as we use the internet today, to refresh memories and settle minor sports disputes.

Just remember, if you make jerseys, you can’t use the trademarked word RAGBRAI without permission. Don’t know how the other ride is about that.

you could make a jersey with a map showing all towns and use “doublecross” as title

Iowa Double Cross is a great name with excellent logo potential!

Re: the logistics.. I’d be driving 850 miles from Alabama to get to Clinton, then another 60 required to get to Dubuque (total 910 miles).

As it stands, OOS requires us to drive to Dubuque to drop off gear, then drive down to Clinton to park, with OOS shuttling folks back to Dubuque.

That adds 120 miles of travel to my 910. I’m sure hoping there’ll be another option that’ll allow me to park in Clinton and get a shuttle for both myself and my gear to Dubuque.

If you aren’t from the region, you might want to go between Clinton and Dubuque on the Illinois side and see Galena. Really neat historic town, set up for antiques and all that touristy stuff, the home of President and General U.S. Grant, if you are in to that sort of thing. Fulton, across the river from Clinton has an authentic Dutch windmill. I do not know when Dutch Daze is there, probably earlier in the year.

I’d bet if you reached out to riders from Clinton via bike shops, clubs, etc. you’d find someone willing to cart you and your gear to Dubuque. They may even have a place for your car. Just a thought.

Team Ah Jeez has a few spots left – We are planning to support both Iowa Ride and Ragbrai. Iowa Ride will be limited to total of 7 riders and Ragbrai we only have 3 spots left. PM me if you are interested. We are a family friendly team- we have Trikes and road bikes going and we don’t do the drama we look forward to the adventures of Riding our Great state of Iowa 2 times this year.
