Giant flag waves above riders in Brooklyn

Thousands of riders were treated to a patriotic experience Friday in Brooklyn, the day’s first pass-through town. Riders found themselves walking through town instead of riding, in order to take in an enormous American flag suspended above the route– cast against a vivid blue sky. Traffic slowed to a plodding pace as riders took their time to pass under the gargantuan Star-Spangled Banner sprawling above them.

Brooklyn, known as the “Community of Flags” in Iowa, surely added to the All-American experience that is RAGBRAI.

American flag in Brooklyn, IA for the 2011 RAGRAI on Friday, July 29. I was shooting this video when I heard clicking of pictures behind me and a Des Moines Register reporter was taking my picture. Happened to be wearing an american flag jersey at the time and was photographed and interviewed by the reporter Christopher Gannon.

Notice the cool Mr. Shady visor on my bike helmet. You need one.
Wow! That’s an incredible picture of the flag. Great ride and thanks for capturing this moment in time.
